I think Karlsson could do some damage with this Panthers team.

He shares PP time with Letang so I imagine he doesn't get to quarterback to the same degree compared to if he were the sole defenseman on the PP with us. We also have much better offensive depth than the Penguins to capitalize on his abilities.

We have Forsling who will be able to cover Karlsson's defensive lapses, they are both excellent skaters.

Him being on the team would make our 2nd and 3rd pairings stronger. Ekblad and Mikkola would be a really good shutdown line.

Kulikov would be where he belongs on the 3rd pair.

All in all, he'd be an upgrade on Montour, who we've clearly missed this season.

Hard to see it happening ofc, but one can dream..

If Zito can pull off Noah Dobson he's ascended from Demi-God to full blown Zeus.

Realistically I don't see it happening. Lou is old but he ain't senile and I don't think Big Z has the assets to acquire him.

What about Lawson Crouse at 50% retained for two more years? He's had an off-year with Utah and is kinda lost in the shuffle down there now with some youngers guys emerging. He'd beef up our bottom-6 and add some much needed scoring punch. Not sure how Utah values him at this stage though.

I like the idea of Karlsson but at $10 million for two more years after this I don't see a world where it works unless the Pens are blowing it up and wanna cover 50%.

We gave him 18 games, almost a quarter of the season, with pp time, and he only potted 6 pts., with horrible defense. What did you want Maurice to do? Bjornfot outplayed him in only a handful of games. Bjornfot and Balinskis are just more reliable.

I was the biggest Adam Boqvist cheerleader before he signed and even I can concede I was dead wrong. Way too much of a liability on the back-end.

Bennett - 7 years x $6.25 million

If Zito could land Pulock from NYI for some futures + Rodrigues + Sawchyn, it'd add another diamond to his GM crown.
Rodrigues is a decent player but my thinking is Samoskevich will earn more minutes next year and I prefer Bennett even if he shifts to wing. Or you can shift Lundell to LW if need be, different C/W matchups for Bennett and Lundell for different teams. Zito loves having as many C's as possible.

Sign Donato who's shown to be a decent depth scorer capable of 15 goals, 30 or so points, basically replaces Rodrigues and Donato can be traded in a year or two when other prospects graduate.

Trade Bob in July, back to Columbus, I think he would entertain going back after both ex coach and GM are gone now.
CBJ also trending up. Merz has 2 years left but at a cheaper cap hit, we would retain $2.5 million.on Bob for the single year left.

Bring back Boqvist depending on how he finishes out the year and his performance in playoffs, if he sucks, sign a decent 4C for around $2 million.

Promote Benning to 3rd line, him and Balinskis can fight for minutes beside MVP Kulikov.

Karlsson is too expensive only because the Panthers don't have much draft capital to trade with and EK' ability to produce points is starting to doze off. But I think that Zito would prefer to get a veteran top4 dman instead of wasting time with another waiver wire-material player á la Boqvist.
