YOW
a bit early for this, yes, but something to consider. Hopefully no hasek-esque injuries to screw us again.

Russia: None
Slovakia: None
United States:
- probable: Bobby Ryan
- possible: Craig Anderson
Slovenia: None

Finland: None
Canada:
- probable: none
- possible: Jason Spezza
- longshot: Marc Methot
Norway: None
Austria: None

Czech Republic:
- probable: Milan Michalek
Sweden:
- probable: Erik Karlsson
- possible: Mika Zibanejad, Robin Lehner
Switzerland: None
Latvia: None

that's 3 almost guaranteed, 4 more with a chance, and 1 with a longshot chance. We're likely looking at ~5 key players in Sochi.

Alfredsson... oh wait.
Well you can't count him. He retire.. oh wait.

Hope Spezza makes it. Canada will have a strong team regardless whether it's the Canadian management, me or you, Maggie the monkey, or Queen Victory chucking darts at a board, choosing the team.

Spezza is probably a longshot. Just too much depth at centre and he can't really play the wing.

Michalek is a lock for Czech. Ryan is a lot for the US.

You'd think Anderson would be probable, but with Quick/Miller it's hard to say. One things for sure, I hope he's not there. Not only would another Hasek-like incident suck, but I'd also hate to play against Anderson for Gold. He has absolute game stealing potential as much as any goalie in the league. He could definitely steal the game.

Does anyone know when the development camp for Canada is? Hope to watch some, especially with Spezza and Methot

you'd have to think lehner is lock for a back up spot . Lundqvist, fasth then lehner
Da Costa for France :sarcasm: nvm doesnt look like the french qualified ?

I would rather a quick/anderson goalie then a quick/miller goalie pair. I just do not think miller is that great anymore. He was not really good last season for the Sabres. Maybe its because he is tired of playing for the same team and that is causing him to stink. I just think he needs to prove himself again before being considered for a job in the Olympics. Then you have a goalie like howard who could also end up making the usa team.

On another topic, canada really seems like they are somewhat lacking in the goalie department: price, luongo, brodeur, crawford. I personally think a crawford/price lineup could work out being that crawford showed the world that he is a great goalie and price is still a good goalie. What do you guys think?

Anyways, it is pretty much a lock that canada wins gold being that dan blysma is coaching the usa team. :sarcasm:

Ya I mean according to HF there are somehow about 15 centers ahead of Spezza.:shakehead

Spezza isn't the greatest fit for Team Canada considering they can pick whomever they please.

Spezza is a top 6 centreman (unless you're Hitchcock): now I love Jason but you aren't being honest if you'd put him in your top 6 of all Canadians currently playing in the NHL.

A little off topic, but I'm concerned about who will be Canada's goalie, and it better not be LUONGO

It will be Ward, Price and Luongo. How the year is going for them will determine who starts but I sort of hope it's Ward, I love the guy.

I don't get how Luongo was voted the 5th best goalie in the NHL.

Like what? He's underrated and all, but not if he's considered 5th best in the league.

If Jason Spezza was a winger, he'd be on the team. Unfortunately, Spezza's not going to beat out Crosby, Giroux, Tavares, Stamkos, Toews, etc.

Me too. Especially when you hear Reimer being mentioned....:shakehead

Are we that weak in net?

I still think it's Luongo, Ward and Price.

As for the US. Look for them to bring a younger goaltender for the experience. I'm thinking Quick, Miller and Schneider.

Has Anderson ever played at the international level? I'm not too worried about him being our opponent. We'll have Crosby, Tavares, Giroux and a whole bunch besides...we should be able to pop 3-5 past him. If not just run him or crowd his crease till he breaks.

Do agree on the potential of an injury, which could happen if teams are crashing him.
But if that happened to him it could happen to Lehner, who might also see some play. I'm a lot more comfortable with Lehner in nets for the Senators going forward, much more consistent...

Most likely due to the missed season/injury. Spezza's ranked 5th in point per game since the lockout. The only higher-scoring centers in the NHL have been Crosby, Malkin(Russian) and Thornton(Old)! IMO If he starts out as hot as everyone's expecting him too with Bobby Ryan there's no way he's getting overlooked for Sochi.

EDIT: I was just looking over Canada's depth at center and I could easily see Crosby - Stamkos - Toews - Tavares/Stall all making the team over Spezzini. Again though, it depends a lot on what kind of impression he makes at the beginning of the season so we'll just have to play the waiting game.

If Jason Spezza was a winger, he'd be on the team. Unfortunately, Spezza's not going to beat out Crosby, Giroux, Tavares, Stamkos, Toews, etc.

This. Mank pretty much summed it up before me lol.

There's no way Spezza makes Team Canada.

They turned him down for the WC 2 years ago when he was 4th in the league in scoring.

Why is nobody saying that crawford could be one of canadas goalies? I think he is a better gamble then price is too be honest.

We used to have it so easy. "Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur, and someone to sit in the press box."
