I'm not on the fire Monty train just yet but his time to correct course is definitely limited.

If they do change I'd try Gallant or Leach. Gallant always seems to have a pretty short shelf life but his results are solid and I think he'd have a fair chance of getting something out of this group. Knows how to get a team playing solid, hard, fairly straightforward no-nonsense hockey. Worth considering.

Leach obviously we don't know in terms of how he'd go at the top level, but he's earned a solid rep and had some time and experience elsewhere. Bit concerning perhaps that he's already been a part of the Bruins' early woes this season, but it's only been a short time and a partial-season trial may be an ideal opportunity to see what he's really made of.

Depends which way the organization wants to go. Gallant or similar is the safer option that is perhaps more likely to spring a quick turnaround, a Leach may require a bit more patience. What happened last year with the Oilers was exceptional and I don't think should be taken as any sort of example to follow - no knock on Knoblauch, but there's a very good chance their turnaround had very little to do with him and more with a very good roster and its stars finally waking up.

Could they pry Mitch Love away from the Caps? Back-2-back coach of the year in the AHL with Calgary's affiliate but got passed over for Huska when Sutter got canned.

My other suggestion is Claude Julien. This team's only hope is playing tight defensively and Claude knows how to instill defensive structure.

Realistically speaking if Sullivan gets canned and the Bruins are struggling I wouldn't be shocked at all if he's brought back. But 've always got the impression watching Pittsburgh (and his stint in Boston) his teams play soft and don't finish their checks. Personally I don't want Sullivan here again.

David Quinn after being passed over once and failing in two franchises already would be a typical Bruins hire. Not a fan.

Whoever it is has to be able to get these guys back to playing tight defensively if they want any chance of success.

How about no NHL HC retreads?

Man... this is tough. I feel like if someone comes in here 50 days or so into the season, he'd need to be someone who has been through it as an NHL coach.

I don't feel like this is the time or team to trot out a guy who has never been an NHL HC.

Not even sure who is out there aside from those already mentioned in this thread, but my opinion is that whoever it is needs to have some established credibility at the NHL level.

Still think they gotta wait 20 games to do anything major.
They are probably out of the playoff race at that point. They have been legitimately one of the worst teams in the league by most statistical measures. If they were playing well and just not getting bounces, there'd be a stronger argument to stay the course for now.

Not that it's a terrible idea to do a retooling year, but if they want to get into playoffs they need to make a change pretty soon.

While I agree with you, we are already half way through that and Monty is using line combos I've never seen in a hockey team before. Smacks of desperation and if the team keeps losing over the next 3 I can see a quick pull to try and save the season.

I mean, the previous line combos ain't working at all, so if these new ones are bad too maybe the problem isn't the coach.

Leach was brought here to make the D better, they are worse with more talent.

Yes he was brought in to make the D better, but he was ask to make them better at generating offense. I think that's part of the issue this season. Our defense is expected to be more offensive minded.
