Landeskog - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Newhook - Kadri - Burakovsky
Nichushkin - Jost - Compher
Helm - Maltsev - O’Connor

Sherwood

Toews - Makar
Murray - Girard
Byram - Johnson

MacDermid

Kuemper
Francouz
That's the lineup I expect to see, with Newhook given intermittent opportunities at 2C with Kadri at 2LW just like what happened on occasion last season.

As I mentioned in the Helm thread I could also envisage Helm being put with Nichuskin and Jost in certain situations or if Compher has to move to the 2nd line due to injuries. Helm-Jost-Nichuskin would be an excellent pure defensive line, which would leave O'Connor-Maltsev-Compher as the 4th line which is a spot where Compher actually looked reasonably good last year.

Helm - Jost - Nichuskin
LOC - Maltsev - Compher

Alright here is my shake it up forward group.

Landeskog- MacKinnon- Burakovsky
Nichushkin- Newhook- Rantenen
Jost- Kadri- O' Connor
Helm- Maltsev- Compher

That would be by day 1 forward group. A number of reasons why it wouldn't work, but you learn an awful lot from it. In an 82 game season... who gives a shit if you start off 3-7? Knowing your team and what players are, and more importantly, are not ready for helps down the line. What positions need improved? What can be patched? What will be exploited?

How many years are we going to count on EJ to play a prominent role? Him staying healthy just will not happen.

"Whats the definition of insanity"....you know the rest.

Landeskog- Mackinnon- Rantanen
Newhook- Kadri- Burakovsky
Compher- Jost- Nichushkin
Helm- Maltsev- O'Connor
Sherwood

Toews - Makar
Murray - Girard
Byram - MacDermid
McDonald - *Johnson

Lol, the wheels were already falling off this team after the 3-3 start last season. I can't imagine the level of frothing at the mouth that would be going on here if we started 3-7

Pretty obvious what the plan is tbh.

Landy - Mack - Mikko
Hook - Kadri - Bura
Nuke - Jost - JTC
Helm - Maltsev - LOC
Sherwood/Sikura/MacDermid

Toews - Makar
Girard - EJ
Byram - Murray
Gross/MacDonald

Kuemper
Francouz
Murray has never played on the right side in the NHL and asking Byram to play on the right as a rookie would be a mistake.

Byram playing 3rd pairing with EJ is the right thing to do for both players.

Toews - Makar
Murray - Girard

or

Girard - Makar
Murray - Toews

No, it isn't. If EJ is healthy and ready to go he is stapled to Girards hip.

Toews - Makar
Girard - EJ

That is "The right thing to do" and full the bottom pairing in as fit. If Byram or Murray cant/won't play the Right side then one of them sits.

The line up @RoyIsALegend is what I would've put, so I'll take a shot in the dark here and try to plan for the Bednar Blender (Landeskog-Kadri-Saad, anyone?).

EJ probably starts next to Girard and I think he should based on previous chemistry and the lefty-righty thing but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Murray is better than a healthy EJ at this point.

Whoever is left will be on the bottom pair. No matter how often you try to get Byram out of the lineup, I don't think it's happening and nor should it.

I can't imagine this idea will go over too well with the Avs faithful.

I believe NAF has the right idea about finding some balance.

I believe that JTC isn't going anywhere.

Thus:

JTC almost has to fill a role in the Top 6. I might even try Newhook there, but that send JTC down to Jost's line, where he will kill everything he touches.

This is essentially 2 scoring lines ( barely) and 2 shut down lines ( barely.) It's a ticket to another second round exit, IMO.

No surprise Bednar :

Landeskog- Mackinnon- Rantanen
Kadri - Newhook - Burakovsky
Nichushkin - Jost - Compher
Helm- Maltsev- O'Connor

Toews - Makar
Girard - Johnson
Murray - Byram

Kuemper
Francouz

Of course first line will play 25 minutes a game, and 4th line 5 minutes.

I wouldn't say it's obvious that Murray plays on the right side.

I could see the old second line being reunited. They’ve always been pretty good together.

Landeskog - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Nichushkin - Kadri - Burakovsky
Newhook - Jost - Compher
Helm - Maltsev - LOC
I'd rather see Nich and Newhook swapped. Let him play with better talent + better development and Nichushkin/Jost seem to have good chemistry when they play together.
