Not a Habs fan, but I live in Montreal so I know a lot about your team. Here's my two cents. I think you guys should go for something like this:

Pacioretty-Plekanec-Gionta
Bourque-Eller-Briere
Galchenyuk-Leblanc-Gallagher
Prust-White-Moen/Parros

Trade Desharnais for whatever you can get, and hopefully Eller can put up 40-50 points at least on the 2nd line.

Also, have you guys ever considered trading Plekanec? IMO he's probably one of your most valuable forwards in terms of the return you can get. He's been part of the team for a really long time, I think it would be wise to move on. Personally, I think you guys should have traded him at the deadline for a guy like Bolland.

What do you guys think?

At this point Briere, Galchenyuk and even Desharnais are much better center options than Leblanc who likely will play in Hamilton. Also, Bolland is literally half the player Plekanec is, so I don't see how trading one for one would help improve the team unless they want a higher pick in next years draft.

If he's one of the most valuable of terms of return, why are we only getting an overpaid third line centre for him? :help:

I don't believe in line predictions, but this is my best shot:

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Briere, pure offense, gets the easiest minutes in order to minimize damage from inevitable counterattacks
Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta, shutdown line, plays against elite opposition
Galchenyuk-Eller-Gallagher, secondary offense
Prust-White-Moen, secondary shutdown
spare: Parros, Blunden

Gorges-Subban, 1st pairing, offense and defense
Markov-Diaz, 2nd pairing, offense and defense
Bouillon-Drewiske, 10-15 minutes a game.
Tinordi, Beaulieu, or Pateryn gets the call-up from Hamilton when injury strikes. I'd rather we let them simmer in Hamilton, and that we pick up another D.

The above is an imbalanced lineup, but it is the best we can do with what Bergevin has built, and his obsession with smurfdom.

Red Deer AB.
Pacioretty-Desharnais-Briere,
Bourque-Plekanec- Gallagher( Gionta, Most Likely injured to start the season)
Galchenyuk-Eller-Prust,
White\Paros-Dumont-Moen, spare: Tarnasky, Blunden

Gorges-Subban, 1st pairing, offense and defense
Markov-Diaz, 2nd pairing, offense and defense
Bouillon-Tinordi 10-15 minutes a game.
Drewiske
Beaulieu, or Pateryn gets the call-up from Hamilton for injury.
would rather Desharnais not be a # 1 center but until chucky is ready we're stuck I guess. that's my two cents.

If nothing changes....this would be my "meh" roster...

Eller - DD - Bourque
Pacs - Chucky - BeeGee
Prust - Pleks - Briere
Moen - White - Parros

We are missing another body with physical and scoring attributes.

As soon as healthy, trade Gionta with retained salary for a pick and/or prospect.

Pretty conservative with the forwards. 4th line gets very little ice time, but Prust often double-shifts in Chucky's place on the 3rd line, depending on the game situation. Find a way to move Moen, even if it's through waivers or demotion (retaining 925K on the cap if demoted).

Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta
Pacioretty-Desharnais-Briere
Galchenyuk-Eller-Gallagher
Prust-White-Dumont
Parros

Unless Hainsey is insisting (even this late in free agency) on too long a term, sign him, 3.75mil. When Emelin returns, he bumps Gorges down a pairing, and the Cube out of the lineup. Of course, dmen are always getting hurt anyway, so by that time the situation could have changed. Start Tinordi in Hamilton - if he's ridiculously dominant, Bouillon's job is his.

Hainsey-Subban
Markov-Gorges
Bouillon-Diaz
Drewiske

Sorry but that is just a terrible line up...Eller on the wing? Pleks on the 3rd line with Prust?

Not disagreeing with you. Tends to prove that the roster is a mismatch of pieces that just don't add up. The assets don't sync and blend well. We have a dysfunctional roster.

Love the forward lines, that's how I'd like to see them. But wouldn't have Galchenyuk on the point during the PP. Too much responsibility IMO for a young player. He could really get down on himself it a shorthanded goal is scored because he was beat defensively. Or make him question or rush the plays as he is worried about turning it over and having to be the defenseman. Rather just see him replace Bourque as one of the forwards.

I think Galchenyuk would actually be pretty good at the point on the powerplay. Maybe it is too soon. I dont want to see Gorges or Bouillon on the powerplay. Maybe:

Brendan Gallagher - Lars Eller - Alex Galchenyuk
Rafael Diaz - Rene Bourque

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Bourque
Galchenyuk - Eller - Brière

That is, IMO, a very good and decent size top 6.
If MB can build a good bottom 6 with trades to go with that top 6
(Already Prust, Gallagher, Parros are keepers)...we might not be that small team anymore

When playing bigger centers, Pleks and Eller can split faceoffs.

Pacioretty - Chucky - Gallagher
Plekanec - Eller - Briere
Morrow - Desharnais - Bourque
Moen - White - Prust
Dumont-Parros

If we don't get Morrow:

Pacioretty - Chucky - Gallagher
Plekanec - Eller - Briere
Prust - Desharnais - Bourque
Moen - Smithson - White
Dumont-Parros

How about a trade around Desharnais for Allen and Maroon? DD can be a 2nd line cntre for Anaheim and Allen and Maroon will add size on the back end and bottom 6.

We can then try to sign Morrow hopefully.

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher
Bourque - Briere - Gionta
Morrow - Eller - Galchenyuk
Prust - White - Moen
- Maroon and Parros

Gorges - Subban
Markov - Emelin
Allen - Diaz
- Drewiske and Bouillon

Prust-/-Desharnais-Gallagher
Moen-White-Parros

The only thing I can see without having a smurf line.

So i've come down to this lineup which made me think

How small are we exactly up-front?

Brière - Plekanec - Bourque
Pacioretty - Eller - Desharnais
----------
Gionta - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
Prust - White - Moen/Parros

Three forwards in our top 6 are 6'2'' - Eller the lightest at 209, Pacioretty at 219. That's not as bad as I anticipated at all from hearing all the complaint over the summer over how small we have gotten.

I know it's hard to conceive but we might actually have gotten tougher over the summer: replacing Armstrong by Parros definitely add intimidation and aggressiveness into our team. Brière is more pesky than Ryder, goes into the corner and in front of the net more.

The dust have settle down and I'm actually kind of happy with the roster we'll ice in october. I wouldnt be against trading Desharnais for Volchenkov and a pick, and get Morrow.

Brière - Plekanec - Bourque
Pacioretty - Eller - Gionta
Morrow - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
Prust - White - Parros

Volchenkov - Markov
Subban - Gorges
Diaz - Emelin (once he's back)

Is Gionta going to be ready for the start of the season?

Also, I think a young guy makes the club upfront somewhere and pushes someone out. Not sure why, just have a feeling and I have no idea who it will be, maybe Leblanc.

I would love Leblanc to force the team hands.

I'm willing to be very patient with Leblanc. I envision him in the lineup full-time in less than two (2) years. Needs more bulk.

Outside of the 4th line, there isn't really a place for him.

No Desharnais (hypothetical):

Bourque-Plekanec-Moen

Gionta (injured)

Desharnais:

Bourque-Pleks-Briere

Did you watch last game?

Desharnais was good and Brière wasnt.

Why do you promote Brière and demote Desharnais?

What are those defensive pairing?

Tinordi isnt ready to play big minutes with Subban. Where's Diaz?

BTW Subban is a RD and Tinordi a LD.
