Agree that Murtagh and McKinney are close, and depending on the night they could be flip flopped. Maybe lately I'd lean McKinney over him. Didn't see the games from last weekend but McKinney was really good vs ASU over the holidays and improved since the prospects game. I see him potentially being the biggest riser on the U-18 squad this year where I originally thought it'd be Fondrk. What's your thoughts?

They’re the top two for me of the guys who are still playing. McKinney’s size (6’0 even for a little while now) and only okay skating would be a slight concern for me, given he’s underrated offensively but probably doesn’t have elite offensive abilities. I think he could be a 2C, if all goes well, but I also think it’s not a guarantee he ends up a top 9 player. May just end up a 4C. I think Murtagh’s game could take off with more skilled guys around him, and there’s nothing that I have major questions about. Not as fast, but I could see him as like a Ryan Leonard style player as he gets older.

Amico is in the same range for me, but what do you do with a player who missed nearly the whole season? Probably a little lower than them, but I could see him ending up the best of the three down the road.

The breakout player for me so far has probably been Hafele or Gallant. Gallant will have it tough to get drafted due to his size, but he’s helped himself with that this season. Hafele could be a second rounder in 2026 I think, and maybe he has a great draft year and rises beyond that. Unfortunately not many breakout candidates. I felt like the best players were already the best last year, and the guys who’ve broken out aren’t major prospects. Andrew O’Neill theoretically another who could fit into the breakout category, but we’re talking about round 2/3, at best. Still half a season to go, so maybe it changes.
