Hi y'all!
Long time lurker here and not a fan of any of these teams but I had an idea about Chicago, Utah and the Islanders that I wanted some feedback on.
Trade 1:
New York Islanders Trade:
Matt Barzal
Chicago Blackhawks Trade:
#3 Overall Pick
Why Chicago does this - With the talk around Bedard wanting to win, I think Chicago gives up a high pick in a weak draft to acquire a bonafide star who fits with Bedard well stylistically. Barzal being a pass first speedster opens up the space for Bedard to thrive. Or, Barzal plays as the long term 1B behind Bedard to take some pressure off of the kid. Chicago also throws money at Marner to start taking a step forward next season
Trade 2:
New York Islanders Trade:
#1 Overall Pick
Utah Hockey Club Trade:
#4 Overall Pick
Barrett Hayton
Why Utah does this - Utah needs another star to build around and Schaefer could definitely be that. Plus, the allure of playing him next to Durzi for a decade is too good to pass up. Losing Hayton hurts but it makes the drop from #1 to #4 palatable for the Islanders. Utah then throws money at Sam Bennett as a long term 2C behind Cooley as they look to take their next step.
#1 - Utah selects D Matthew Schaefer
#2 - San Jose selects F Michael Misa
#3 - New York selects F James Hagens
#4 - New York selects F Anton Frondell
Why New York does this - New York without Lamoriello can finally begin the true rebuild that fans have been clamoring for. A forward prospect core of Hagens (local kid with star potential), Frondell (2-way beast that can physically impose), along with Eiserman and Ritchie is huge with Horvat and Hayton being solid pieces for the time being. Hayton in particular is on a great contract for the next couple years and has top 6 upside. I don't believe that Schaefer would go #1 overall in any other year, nor do I think there's much of a difference between Schaefer and Frondell in terms of upside, so I don't think Islanders feel too bad about dropping from #1 to #4. Thus, this a win-win-win for all three teams.
So, what say you? Does this make sense for any/all of these teams?
Cheers!
