Maybe Ryane Clowe? But the Sharks will most likely be in the playoff hunt, so I doubt it.

As for defensemen, maybe Toni Lydman? If the Ducks are behind, I could see him on the bottom pairing. He's a lefty though, so IDK if he plays only the left side, or if he can play right.

Ryan Whitney from EDM?
Anton Babchuk from CGY?

Both are expiring contracts on not-so-great teams.

based on that lineup it looks like halpern and a pick for getzlaf

Babchuk only has a slap shot going for him.

Whitney would be nice, but his price would be sky-high. He's also a LHD and is shady defensively.

Still a lot of time, maybe McIlrath or Gilroy impress on the bottom pair.

Don't know how much McIlrath can do in the NHL after less than a season of AHL play. Gilroy is technically a free agent, and can sign wherever he wants. Apparently, he's been having defensive brainfarts in the A, so IDK how high the Rangers are on him.

Looking at the list of UFA D after 2013, (http://capgeek.com/free-agents/?year_id=2013&team_id=-1&position_id=D&fa_type_id=2) there's not much to chose from. All the good players are on the good teams and would cost a lot, and then there's lots of crap.

Robyn Regehr and Ladislav Smid are ones that I like, but they would cost way too much.

i would love to see Simon Gagne here.
and as goes for adding some depth for D:
Chris Butler from CGY
or
Tim Gleason from CAR

Regehr would be awesome. I don't think he would cost more than a 2nd rounder and he can really help stabilize the bottom pairing and take away PK time from DZ so he can solely focus on offense.

Smid is the Oilers best defenseman and they're a pretty crappy defensive team, so I think they sign him to an extension.

I think Regehr would do well in a shortened season. Buffalo, to me anyway, isn't looking too good this year. I'd like to get him if he doesn't command much coming back.

Not sure why people are throwing the second round pick around. The Rangers don't have a first. They really can't deal their second just to add depth.

Either Clowe or Murray. I don't know how good San Jose will be this year. They remind me more of the Rangers around 97 more and more every year. Their core is getting older and the prospect pipeline is pretty thin.

Either one would be great but at what cost? Trading a 2nd is dumb and they're going to demand some combo of high picks AND McLIrath and probably two of Fast/Lindberg/St. Croix which is a big NO.

28 other teams will want those guys.

Give me Ryan Getzlaf on a rental to come in here and make this team just freaking stupid.

Out of all of the possibilities discussed, this is definitely the most unrealistic of all.

Oh please no! As a NYR and a Jets fan, I don't want him on either team.

I know Hainsey is more of an offensive type, and isn't exactly physical, but this is more so in previous play and the little I've seen of Winnipeg in 12.

Can you give us a good scouting report on him?

Gagne wouldn't be a bad pickup, would fit right in. Health and assets needed are the issues there.

Gleason won't be going anywhere, Carolina is going to be a tough team as long as their defense holds up and Gleason is a BIG part of that.

Here's an interesting name for camp UFA signing:

Tomas Holmstrom.

Maybe now that Lidstrom is gone from Detroit, Lundqvist can convince Holmstrom to come here. He'd fit really well into our bottom-6.

Like this idea a lot. Fits into the mold of what this team is about. Can stand in front of the net on the 2nd PP unit. He would be a great addition but I don't where he'd fit in on the even strength lines.

You're in the wrong part of the internet if you're trying to avoid those...

I've been here long enough, I know where I am. It'd be nice if people did their homework or thought for even just a few seconds before they'd post.

We should only be considering expiring contracts. Need a veteran defenseman and depth forward for the playoff run.

And I don't think it would happen, but Iginla is not too unrealistic. He has spent his whole career in calgary. He isn't getting younger. He could ask for a trade, and he could narrow it down to NYR. For a rental, it might not cost a ton. I know he is a winger, but you can slide people around. It's Jarome Iginla.

Rangers just got Rick Nash. they arent going ot make any big moves at the deadline, theyve got way too much money tied into this team as it is. unless its an expiring contract.

I hear this... but what about other teams HAVING to expend some players because of the new cba?

The top 6 looks great, the top 4 D look great.

If the right role player or upgrade at third line C became available... which it could. They might have to take a look.

Yeah and it has to be an expiring contract. There will be someone available.

Dan Boyle is signed through 2013-14. $6,666,667. The Rangers don't have the room unless they're sending Gaborik to San Jose. That was a rumor last summer.

The Rangers need depth on D. They can't win playing with 4 or 5 D.

Without giving up Kreider, what reasonable overpayment can we make with Bruins to get Dougie Hamilton?

Granted, he's a rookie. But he was something like 8th overall, is highly prized, would be a long term add, and would at worst fit bottom pair, meaning everybody moves up or gets relief minutes.

But what would Boston want?

Management is very high on him. I don't think they would even trade him for Kreider if he was available. He is already expected to fill the loss of Corvo( daunting task :sarcasm: ) and we lack any other outstanding D prospects besides him so it would most likely cost more that anyone would be willing to pay.

What are you giving up for Iginla?

Hard to guess as we have no idea what this team is or what their needs may be at the deadline. At first blush, I think they will try to add a vet d-man for the playoffs.

He would cost a first rounder and a lower prospect like Noreau or a second with a quality prospect like Fast or Thomas.
