Player Discussion Pontus Holmberg

He’s been really good lately. Someone in another thread attributed it to playing with Nylander, but when you watch the games that really has nothing to do with it. Better linemates help, but he has been more physical and aggressive with his play. He looks good right now. He’s drawn many penalties for us.

I think it could be better linemates.

He is clearly the 3rd player on that line, so maybe him being able to focus on the defensive end, the forecheck, and just distributing the puck to better players has helped.

Before, I think a lot of his issues were around holding onto the puck too long and trying to make something out of nothing.

He's decent everywhere, but great nowhere, so maybe just playing a simple game will help.

I've noticed he is an ox out there the last couple weeks. Strong on pucks and unnoveable when he has body position on a guy. Still don't love the lack of fire or finish of course, but those physical attributes are good skills to have.

Some people on here at hard on this guy and don’t seem to get the fact that he’s just 25 years old and has shown significant improvement lately. His confidence is growing and he’s a penalty drawing machine.

I see him continuing to develop his game and he’s a great value player at his cap hit. He’s a player you can slot into the top 6 and not hurt your team

Get him off the second line, he's dining off the others. Put Jarnkrok there and throw him on the fourth where he belongs, in the press box if we land another forward. A couple weeks is great, but the totality of his season is still a below average, warm body, forward. He doesn't PK anymore, he can't stick as a center, he has no vision or real finish and defensively he's average. He can hang onto a puck along the margins, has NHL speed and is responsible, but that's dime a dozen stuff. I'd prefer he isn't on the roster to start the playoffs, again he's has some lucky bounces of late, done some things, but I don't see much upside with him.
