Poll: Will Rossi hit 60 or more points by the end of the regular season?

Will Rossi hit 60 or more points by the end of the regular season?

I wish they had a 'clutch face-off' stat somewhere. Special teams, last 5 minutes 1 goal games, etc. Much more meaningful.

I'm not even sure that would paint Rossi in a better light, but I'm still 100% sure it wouldn't matter. How many times does it seem like he had clutch points this season? Don't think there's a stat for that either, but down 1 in the last couple minutes, I still want him on the ice.

Mikko was on the radio a few months back, and made a similar point. there is a big difference between a neutral zone FO in the middle of a tie game in the 2nd period, and one on special teams, or at the end of a game in a one goal game. He also emphasized that who your wingers are matters a lot, as they are often the ones who win/lose possession.

Yeah, we can add clean wins/losses and scramble wins/losses to my wish list as well.

Just plain FO% doesn't mean much to me, except that if you have a really bad number, you're probably not winning a lot of clutch ones either.

He was playing with Foligno and Greenway because he wasn't good enough offensively to play in the top six.

Rossi is playing in the top six because he is.

No matter how you slice it, Rossi is way ahead of Ek at the same age, especially offensively.
Eriksson Ek’s game isn’t built around providing offense, whereas that’s pretty much all Rossi’s game provides. If Rossi isn’t scoring, what is he providing to the team?
Sure, then let's look at some of the other centers on the team too, right? Especially the defensive centers? Gaudreau is at 48.4%, Eriksson Ek was at 46.9%. Those defensive guys are the ones that should be winning their faceoffs right? That's their role? Why is Ek worse than Rossi at it?

Surely Rossi's 21 extra points over Gaudreau make up for the 1.4% difference in FOW.
I’m not against criticizing any of our centers for their faceoff percentages. Yurov doesn’t look like a solution in that department either. Stramel might be our best hope for a faceoff guy…

I will say that Ek was trending towards 50% (49.4% and 49.7% the last 2 seasons) and the injuries have definitely not helped him any this year. Gaudreau is probably more suited to be a wing. He wasn’t really a center until he played for Minnesota.

Faceoff ability is not the only thing I mentioned for centers. If Rossi was a top end defender or a high end scorer, I could look past his faceoff numbers. He’s not really either of those things.

But Rossi is developing in to a higher end offensive center, is my point. Let's be patient and follow that, rather than worrying about his faceoffs or his defense (both of which are adequate for an offensive center so far).

What’s your definition of a high end offensive center?

Fair enough. I’m skeptical Rossi can be that, especially if Kaprizov leaves, but I appreciate any and all optimism.

So, let’s trade Ek. Cause we need a center that wins over 50% of their faceoffs.

Well, I hate to be this guy, but Brock Nelson is at 52.8 this season...

Kaprizov-Rossi-Zuccarello
Yurov-Nelson-Boldy
Ohgren-Ek-Hartman
Foligno-Gaudreau-Trenin

It used to be over 54% this season too… trending downwards.

I hate that Guerin is probably going to ignore that 10 of Nelson’s 12 seasons have been under 50% on the draw.

Rossi wouldn't have been a top-6C over Staal/Koivu. He wouldn't have been the 3C over JEE either. Rossi would have been on the wing, just like Granny was.

With the Koivu that Eriksson Ek competed with? Yeah Rossi would have been above him. Eriksson Ek wasn't.

Rossi is getting way too much love for being center that doesn't play defense. Rossi would have been playing ~15 mins a night with PP2 winger with no PK for special teams time during those years. I don't think they would have even tried him at center in the NHL. Even when Koivu turned into a black hole the coach wouldn't move him down because of the "vet reasons" that all coaches seem to use.

JEE was solid in the d-zone but lost in the o-zone his first few seasons. Rossi is the opposite.

Rossi isn't a top-6 C on any other Playoff team, nor many non-Playoff teams. He's not even a lateral move from what they have.

He's Granny 2.0, the best option MN has until they get something better. He's done the job he's need to this year, but it's not an ideal spot for a quality lineup. I don't think MN should trade Rossi (if he'll sign a decent bridge contract), they need skill to go with the pletora of stonehand players they have inthe lineup.

I know for sure I'm not picking a center to play with guys like Kaprizov or Boldy based on who's best defensively

So 2 points to go I guess? Hopefully Kap will be back soon, can't see Rossi to reach 60 points without him :sarcasm:

Even in a higher scoring NHL, a 2nd year natural center with ~60 points should be celebrated.

Now just have to determine if there's more in there, or he's done taking leaps, because he's taken 2 pretty clear ones so far.
