UPDATE: After opening it up to other sites (Reddit and Facebook) I had 628 responses. Here is a summary if you are interested (warning: I copied some of my previous language because I am lazy and had little time - but the data and analysis is updated).
The responses below are grouped by position (Defense, Forward, Goalie). D seems to be the area most felt need an overhaul, with only Dahlin and Power receiving more than 50% of the “Want on roster vote.” Interestingly Bernard Docker received exactly 50% and Byram was below him with the majority on the fence (Either Way 44.6%).
The forwards have much stronger clarity as to who the respondents want to keep with McLeod, Thompson, Touch, Benson, Zuker, Kulich and Peterka all receiving over 85% of the “Want on Roster Vote”. Lafferty joins Samuelsson and Bryson as the three players to have the majority of their vote total in the “Do Not Want” category.
I also calculated a net favorability rating which shows the difference between the Percent who Want the player to stay and the percent who doesn’t. I thought this might be a better way to visualize who the consensus thinks should stay (85% or higher), who should go (-%) and who is in the muddy middle.
The seven forwards mentioned above (plus Dahlin) remain in place. The net negative players are Kozak (-1%), Clifton (-16%), Reimer (-16%), Bryson (-50%), Samuelsson (-58%), and Lafferty (-63%). There are also clear drop-offs in the middling scores creating four tiers: Tier one - Norris and Power (above 60%), Tier two – Greenway, Bernard Docker (above 40%), Tier 3 – Krebs, Luukonen (above 30%) and Tier 4 – Byram, Malenstyn, Quinn (above 0%) – I was personally most surprised at the members of Tier 4, even despite Quinn’s struggles.
I hope you found this interesting, thanks for playing along. In addition to my own genuine interest, curiosity and pathological passion for this soul crushing franchise, I also wanted to play around with basic data analysis, visualization and communication so if anyone wants to give me input/advice on that, it is very welcome!
