Hey y'all I hope this is okay. I was bored/curious tonight and created a poll for next season. I am going to post in several spots to hopefully get a good pool of responses.

For each roster player this season playing more than 20 games (plus Norris) I am asking you to decide if you want/do not want/don't have a strong feeling on having them on the roster next season.

I am looking for what the responder wants and thinks would be best for the team, not what they think will happen.

I will keep it open for a couple of weeks and I am happy to share the results if people are interested.

Here is the link - Which Sabres Roster Players Stay Next Season?

Most are could go either way for me but my six "yes, keep" players were Benson, Dahlin, Thompson (though not as 1C), McLeod, Kulich, and Zucker.

I'll be very interested in seeing the results.

Then we can compare HF fan results to what we see roster-wise to start next season.

I figure want on the roster doesn't really mean we can't also be happy with them being traded if it fits.

The Sabres could really use some of the following:

Bounce back season from Quinn
Benson to take a step offensively
Power to take a step defensively
UPL or Levi to have a good season
Improved special teams/less penalties
I still think Tage drives possession and corsi better as the C. With that said, we need a 1C or at least Norris to be a great 2C in the 1C role.
Top 4D.
TEAM DEFENSE. These goal scorers need to find a way to be just slightly less awful in their own zone.

(Misa :naughty:)
If the Sabres don't move up, trade it. Someone will love a player enough at that position. Maybe you can even tie a contract to the deal to save a few Mil. You can ship Lafferty. Anyone acquiring a top 10 pick can eat 2m in cap for a year.

Core:
Dahlin
Thompson

Core-adjacent:
Benson
Power

Gotta Keep Goaltending / Leadership:
Zucker
Luukkonen
(Levi)

Not trying to trade:
Kulich
Tuch
McLeod

Would trade for NHL-now value:
Peterka

Can take or leave:
Krebs
Greenway
Bernard-Docker

Should actively be trying to trade:
Samuelsson
Norris
Clifton
Byram
Quinn

Won't have value, but feel free to move:
Lafferty
Malenstyn

Should go to the AHL (again) after GA4 vs Toronto...
Bryson

That is my plan. I was going to originally just do this site but was thinking of expanding to FB and Reddit. Maybe I will leave it just for us for a couple of weeks and see what this community thinks, then share those results before expanding to a broader pool.

Actively trying to trade Norris lol

If we can package Peterka/Byram into some semblance of an actual 1C or a rock solid RHD, I'm here for it. I'm so bummed out that Norris is looking like our 1C going into next season.

Yea, the obvious catch is you need a target of similar salary structure, but I don't trust his ability to stay healthy....at all.
I think Adams said he knew about this injury and wasn’t anything related to his shoulder. Not sure that he has to stay injury prone his whole career, considering how young he is.

Anyway, Adams sure didn’t seem like he was interested in trading him. Basically nothing new has occurred since the trade so it would look silly as hell.

I'm going to live in a fantasy dream land for a while where Norris is used with Peterka and or Byram and or other stuff to acquire EP.

Did you say the same exact thing as last year

I think Quinn resides in an area where he doesn't have enough trade value, but he has so much potential that I'd hate to give up on him before seeing him with hopefully a new coaching staff plus a productive off season put in by him. If he shows up looking the same after that then I'd consider cutting the cord. But there's not much upside in trading him away, and a lot of upside if he can play like he did a year ago before the injury.

Byram is the only one I actively don't want to keep. He needs a new contract and his trade value probably outweighs what he actually provides on the ice and they need a different type of defenseman in his place.

Peterka I want to keep but he's probably the 2nd biggest trade chip if we want that defenseman or an upgrade at center.

I didn't even notice Lafferty is under contract next season. Hopefully he gets pushed out of the lineup.

Pionk getting 7 million today is bad bad news

Core:
Dahlin, Tage, Tuch, Zucker, McLeod, Benson, Kulich, Greener

Potential trade, but would rather keep:
OP, Peterka, Sammy, Krebs, JBD, Beck

Deal away:
Quinn, Bo

Incomplete Grade:
Norris

GTFO:
Clifton, Bryson, Lafferty
