Other than Malkin, those guys strike zero fear in me.

People could say - and have said - the same about our depth. They really are quality players.

Don't get me wrong; I want to see the Penguins doomed as much as any other Jackets fan, but I just don't see it happening.

Yeah, the Caps and Pens just don't scare me at all this year. I'm even hesitant to put the Rags above us because I thing Lundquist won't be as good this year for some reason.

Well, unless things really fall apart, and there are no surprise teams playing better then expected, I agree with the consensus that both wild card teams in the East will be from the Metro.

Folks can have whatever subjective reaction they want, but the production speaks for itself. Take Pittsburgh's 3rd and 4th line C's, Bonino and Fehr. They combined for 70 pts last year, more than doubling Wennberg+Campbell.

They also played higher in the lineup then they will on Pittsburgh.

And just for fun adding my pre-preseason bracket info that makes the match ups for the first round of the playoffs:

TBL-WAS, MTL-DET, CBJ-NYI, PIT-NYR

Pit just has way too much talent not to trust them to run over some people in the regular season (and be really banged up for the post season). Hedging on a let down in Washington with injuries and some players having a hard time with Trotz. I'm thinking this is finally the year that the Rangers fade a little. Girardi and Staal appear to be fading. Yandle is a defensive mess (see JJ but I'd rather have Jack). And I just don't trust Klein at this point. They're one injury to McDonagh away from having a really rough season to the D.

Pens' top 6 will carry day during regular season.
CBJ's D will be improved, but also the reason for 2nd rather than 1st in regular season.

See Islanders struggling - can't explain why, just a feeling.

Voracek, Giroux and company ready to do some damage IF IF IF Mason holds up.

CBJ built for playoffs, if BOB on his game. Yes, tight games but skill galore on special teams. PK will also be strong. CBJ to win the East...not saying CBJ won't win SC, just staying away from jinx.

Dead last. Here's why:

- Saad only produced in Chicago because of his linemates.
- Foligno won't replicate his career year.
- Rene Bourque is on the second line.
- Dubinsky is overpaid and not that good.
- Hartnell is old.
- Wennberg was handed his spot and played terribly until Hartnell and Dano came along (and most of that was Dano, who is gone).
- Atkinson is a one-dimensional scorer who can't even really score.
- Calvert has no skills beyond being fast and annoying.
- Campbell is a defensive specialist with no scoring punch.
- David Clarkson is on the team.
- Karlsson didn't score a single point with Springfield last year.
- Jared Boll? Come on.
- Murray will never be healthy.
- JJ makes terrible decisions.
- Savard's scoring last year was a fluke.
- The rest of the defensemen are not NHL-caliber.
- Bobrovsky's been going downhill since he won the Vezina.
- Todd Richards is the worst coach in hockey.

In conclusion, Johansen and Jenner are good, but not enough to carry this team out of the basement. The end.

yes, this is a joke

If you took the time and compiled many of the posts on the main board, you could come up with this colorful collage.

I think the CBJ will start off as maybe the 3rd or 4th "team to beat" in the Metro but will end up 1st or 2nd by the mid point. This will be due to a combination of nasty physical play and a potent offense.

This does not mean I think we will be 1st or 2nd by that point, but we will have established a reputation.

Heart's Picks, based on my rational/irrational hatred for each franchise and its respective fan base:

CBJ

Hope everyone had a nice summer. Enjoy the games tonight! :yo:
