Love Woll, but Stolarz is the pick and fits the style we play

Since the TDL, the Leafs are 32nd in low danger shots against/60 and 3rd in high danger shots/60. We collapse to the slot and don't care for point shots, teams can shoot from far out there all game and it doesn't matter as long as we limit the high danger chances

This fits the strength of Stolarz, who is 1st in the league in low danger save% (.978). For comparison, Woll is 21st in the league for low danger save%

It also matches the eye test with Woll having let in goals from the point a fair amount this season, especially compared to Stolarz

I am as staunch a supporter of Woll as you will find but I don't think anyone can argue with Stolarz starting. If he falters, I don't hesitate to switch. and vice versa.
The challenge comes from defining what "falters" means.

A loss? One bad game?

I assume it's less a criteria thing, and more a feel thing, but I would want to make sure that both goalies (especially Stolarz) knows going into this thing that he has a nice long leash and doesn't have to think at the back of his mind that his position may be under threat every shot he faces.

No team has ever rode a tandem to a deep playoff run. Even teams with 2 goalies, have anointed one as "the guy" and made sure he's felt comfortable and settled enough to know the net is his.

The Leafs goal over the next few days is to make sure Stolarz (and Woll) understand that.

I think of the Cup the Hawks won with Crawford losing 2 games and then Darling came in and turned that opening series around. Then he got bombed in the second round and Crawford took the net back.. They won a cup.

There is some feel there and I do trust Berube to have that feel.

Looking strictly at results, not sure how you can argue against Stolarz. He's pretty much ahead across the board - that being said, if he falters at all they should not hesitate to do a quick turnaround to Woll. They stayed committed to Samsonov far too long last year and it cost them big time.

Yes, but you can't wait till you're down 3-1 in a series before you change the goalie. You don't have a lot of time in the playoffs. It's tough, you don't want to pull him after one bad game necessarily, but you also don't have a lot of runway either. Depends when the bad game occurred, I guess. If you're up 2-0 and Stolarz had a poor game 3, you probably stick with him for game 4. Now, if Stolarz has a bad game 1 and we're down 1-0, do you go to Woll for game 2? You're right, it is a feel thing

That can be configured at time of creation I think?

Or at least it used to be.
If so, you would think the default would be to show.
Not a big deal, just thought it was odd.

I voted Stolarz but was curious who the lone Woll vote was from.

In XenForo the default is to information hide. Being a European platform (and therefore subject to GDPR) it's not surprising that's the setting.

That's fair.

But if I recall correctly in 2013-2014, there was no question that Crawford was still the team's number 1, and that he would end up back in the net again. Felt like it really was a non-story until Quenneville named Darling the starter the game after he came in as relief (..... games 2 and 3 against... Nashville, I think?).

While they definitely used 2 goalies, it wasn't a 1A/1B situation there either. The closest example we had to a tandem, and one guy only played 3 games.

That's sort of what I would want to envision here. Even as a big Woll guy, the only reason we should see him in the playoffs is because something has gone horribly wrong.

I said Woll. Come at me!

Both are good, and both will play in the playoffs. Woll has more experience. I wish I knew Berube's secret plan...
If Laughton in net was an option, would you have picked him? 😜

Stolarz all the way for me. Wanted him signed as a UFA and he’s done nothing but prove he’s the real deal.

Between Treliving’s rebuilt defence, his choice of coaches, and our goalie tandem, there’s a lot to like here that makes this feel different.

Hard to argue against Stolarz. Not that I would be appalled if Woll got the nod but I would be curious to hear the reasoning.
