You said it would be an easy series they would control from start to finish in 5 games because Ottawa might squeak one out. So I am not sure who you are trying to kid here.

Why is your problem with what I said...I was responding to the notion that the Leafs have much better offense and much better defense and much better goaltending and will win the series easily.

Surely the math doesn't add up if you look at GA.

Shouldn't you have a problem with the first notion, and not mine?

You still haven't backed up Toronto being noticeably better on defense and in goal, which is what I am objecting to.

If Toronto is easily better on D and in G, why hasn't it showed up in the GA stat?

Are you of the opinion that the difference would come from Ottawa's forwards being better defensively?

Even if you removed the 6 goals against on empty net differential, it still doesn't paint a picture of Toronto easily being better on D and in G...

Where is Ottawa better at to even the gap (and do even better) in GA?

If they can lose to that extremely mediocre Bruins team last year, rhey can definitely lose to the Sens(who aren't great either but imo better than last years Bruins)

They'll easily beat the Sens. It might take 6 but the outcome will not look in doubt. I'm a Sens fan and a Leafs hater but they were wise to win the division. Not get Florida or Tampa in the first round.

I'll never understand the franchise keeping Shanahan and allowing this boys club to continue on after years of nothing beyond regular season glory. Regular seasons where they still weren't good enough to win the division, something they may finally achieve this year as their biggest competition rest their best players down the stretch.

Nylander's infamous "stop f***ing crying bro" clip really sums up the Leafs and this core in a perfect way. Everything has been a mess from the start, the Marner relationship was tarnished from the moment he demanded so much money. The time to move on was then. These guys have been pretenders for as long as they've been in the league. They can all find winning success in the NHL but it won't be together.

If the Leafs play the Sens they lose in 6 games and the talking heads get another year of material as upper management spins their tires and collects their cheques.

Toronto has an elite top 6 which includes:
- a generational goal scoring centre who, may break Ovechkin's goal-scoring record, who also plays Selke-level D
- the 2nd leading scorer in the NHL, WHO IS NOT EVEN THE GUY REFERENCED ABOVE
- a blossoming 30 goal scoring power forward
- a veteran 30 goal scorer who was an Exceptional Player in junior
- the 5th leading point scorer in the NHL WHO IS NOT EVEN ANY OF THE GUYS REFERENCED ABOVE
- TIE f***ING DOMI JR

Should have more than one trip to round two. You'll get your 2nd soon enough though.

Would look pretty bad on the Leafs though if we ended up with the same amount of round 2 appearances after only one try. But the Leafs have this. We're just happy to be here.

There's definitely way more pressure on Toronto, and in particular on Brendan Shannahan. A loss here probably means front office changes which, if you're a beleaguered Leafs fan, as most of us are by this point, may present some small, tiny modicum of consolation.

But the Sens aren't free from pressure, either. They've had a far too lengthy playoff drought and many people expected them to be here sooner. Now they're likely to draw their provincial rival in Round 1, the best team you could hope to draw in the Eastern Conference wildcard, one with a history of blowing it in the first round, and all in a year where the Bruins and the Rangers have both taken steps back. Does that rare formula present itself next year? What happens if it doesn't?

It's a golden opportunity for a team that has been desperate for one, and I imagine there's some pressure not to just to show up, but to show they belong. I don't think they are anything like, say, Montreal, a team nobody had slated for a wildcard at this point in the season.

Should be a fun series. There'll be a story to be told at the end.

McCabe-Tanev had been rock solid all year long

leafs struggling to find a partner t9 rielly all season and played at time with Myers. Since Carlo trade after couple of game to create chemistry and he become easily best partner Rielly never had... They had been pretty solid together since maybe 10 game. Carlo really come and fix a hole in leafs D

and now with Oel on 3rd with Benoit... It's a pretty solid 3rd pair

It's easily the best D leafs ever had in matthews era
 
I actually think Toronto has slightly worse goaltending, worse team defense, but much, much better forwards. They should win but they're not better at every position.

The leafs have a massive advantage in their top 6 forwards and their bottom pairing D. The only place I think Ottawa has a a decent advantage is their 3rd line and #1 D. Its a legit matchup line that can shut down the other top guys and score.

Overall toronto is certainly the favorite they are the better team the standings dont lie. The real question is if Toronto beats themselves with all the pressure.
