Ottawa is the only thing this team has not hurt me with in the Leafs wheel of pain, but I think they have the D core to do it this year AND hopefully TB can take out the Kittens.

I love Amalie Arena in May.

I'm assuming you're a Leafs fan.

Do you really want to do this to yourself?

I've had a lot of doubts about the team every year even though I saw the potential to do it each year. This year the only honest one I could point to is the PK is hot and cold (and cold more often), mayyybbeee concern if Matthews can make it through 16 playoff wins given he is injured but he has played most of the year.

The PP is clicking, depth scoring, defensive structure is sound, Leafs have been scoring playoff goals all year (tips, deflections, banging around the net), goaltending is as solid as we have seen.

The makeup of the defense is different (look at the height and weight of the entire healthy defensive unit) with big long sticks. We have size and grit on every single line and they are not plugs they are actually talented hockey players who can impact the game.

The Leafs several years ago turned from a fast soft skill team to a slow grindy team, and right now they have a good balance of both styles. Guys who thrive in the cycle game and guys who can kill you on break aways and odd man rushes.

So according to the mains the Leafs would be the underdog in any 1st round series. Nearly 60 percent of voters are saying Leafs lose in the 1st.

Florida and Tampa both ranked ahead of the Leafs by the fans of the other 31 teams.

So is Toronto the underdog going into round 1 ?

No, they will be the favorite with betters. Polls are irrelevant.

Something feels different about the Leafs this year. I don't really know how to explain it, and I'm not one who has said "it's different this year" for several years in a row. At least I don't think so. I could see them winning more than one playoff round this year, but I'll believe it when I see it. History is not on their side.

Leafs look different this season for several reason

1- Improving D. It's the best D leafs had in Matthews era.

mcCabe-Tanev ( best shutdown pair)
Rielly-Carlo ( best rielly partner)
Benoit-Oel ( best 3rd pair)

2-Goaltending : Garbage like Campbell/ Samsonov are out and get more stability with Stolarz and Woll

3- More physical than ever especially in D

4- Team spirit is the best i ever see... See Domi step up to send a message after 2 hige hit by guhle

see Marner coming to protect Matthews in a scrum..

Number of shot blocked, they blocked 33 shot just in the game vs Tampa...

Everybody look like ready to sacrifice their body and make everything they could for win even a regular season game

I don't know if they will win this season but clearly the team looking different this season

The core players can’t play physical game, when Ottawa starts pounding Matthews and co will wilt as usual. Marleau was a good teacher, but at least he played in the SCF.
One of the many mistakes Lou and Dubas made was bringing in Tavares, Marleau, Thornton, Spezza, and Giordano to be veterans for this group of children. The five of them have a combined 0 cups. Not the guys who should be teaching anyone how to win when it counts.
