He was an assistant for Toronto and the Islanders, and learned how to lose to Edmonton for one season with LA before continuing the tradition for two more years.
Thats a whole lot of playoff losing on the resume. haha

Was hilarious watching on TV how he and his staff talked themselves into a goal challenge that was ridiculous. In realtime every Oilers fan saying "please challenge, please take a penalty" the doofus actually does and we take 8secs to score the winning goal on the ensuing PP BECAUSE of the coaching challenge. Which he then later defends...

In a different time and space coaches would be punted for this sort of thing. The Kings were never the same after that decision, and after that loss. AS a player or employee when you see superiors make such mind blowing poor decisions it can impact morale.

Can't even make a prediction with this team. Who knows what they will do lol

I feel like they already hit the dedication level that took us to the finals though. We lacked it when we lost to Vegas last time, and last year it took until the last few games of the Canucks series to get there. So, as loose as we've looked, the commitment to playing the right way looks high.

We could snowball and click......... or make a bunch of mistakes. Vegas is a good match stylistically and we should control possession........ but that was true last time..... when we lost.

That challenge is his equivalent to Woody riding and dying with Skinner in 2023, except I wouldn't be surprised to see him gone before the season starts. Also, he could partially blame his video coach on the failed challenge, but he can't blame anyone but himself for overplaying his vets into complete exhaustion.

He'll be joining Woody as a perennial quota interview and perpetual head coach candidate. Hate to break it to both of them, but I'm pretty sure they blew their one chance at a prolonged head coaching career in the NHL.

Plus theres the double whammy of playing short bench the whole series AND expecting that short bench to just kill another penalty, just because, just because you made a doofus decision. I'd be like "well you go kill the penalty" My rebel mind haha.

I can't imagine how tired Doughty, Kopitar, Kempe, Danault were at the end of this series. probably went right to bed. Just let me sleep a couple nights in the nice hotel here...They were dead exhausted. I even give that teams some credit because you can still see some spots of Champion compete level there but with this roster and this coaching and clowns like Fiala and Byfield being a random molecule you're not going far.

I think someone on here summed it up best when they said that the Kings couldn't care less about round two and beyond: their Stanley Cup was beating us in round one and they didn't care how many of their players they had to run into the ground to do it. They would have gladly been swept by Vegas with a smile on their faces knowing they at least beat us. Which, of course, they couldn't.

Will be a tough series as we will be a bit handicapped by the inevitably bad officiating. I still think we take this in 7 IF Pickard starts every game of the series.

Picked Vegas in 6. I didn't pick a winner in first round but thought Oilers should be able to beat LA. Difficulty level increases appreciably in this series and Frankly LA gave us all we could handle. I think it ends in this round. We'll see what happens.

Apparently theres an unstated rule in this poll that you can't pick Vegas. I worry that Vegas makes money on Vegas winning. ;)

Not feeling it this time kids.

I'll put in a clause folks. If Pickard starts and finishes the series we Win. if he doesn't we lose. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. heh

That would be the mistake. its not that indicative, and its selective. The Kings are a pretty ordinary roster that could even miss playoffs and nobody would take a second glance at that. If anything its an org that manages some work mantra in the room and gets some guys following the Kopitar, Kempe, Doughty kind of example. They have some solid defensive forwards like Danault who I'm very high on, but overall that is not a great roster.

Indeed even having to be reliant on the offense of Fiala or the clusterf*** plays of Byfield is its own risk/reward. The guys make so many bozo plays in critical moments in games.

The Kings were somewhat better this time around but a part of that is how the Oilers were a little weaker this time around and needed every bit of Pickard and Kane to even take this series.

The Kings face us every season because basically every other team besides Vegas are usually terrible. With the exception of outlier instances its been Vegas, Edmonton, LA in playoffs for several years. If Kings were in a harder division they would've missed one or two of those playoffs alltogether.
I disagree :)

Didn't pay too much attention, but Adin Hill has a 0.880% with 6 GP. Worse than Pickard.

Pickard also has a better GSAx and GSAx per 60 than Hill...

And Vasilevsky. And Ullmark.

And obviously Skinner and Hellasuck.

So yeah, he's actually been the better goalie than Hill in these playoffs.

Why? Playoffs are set into divisional brackets. We Play Vegas no matter what. winner of Colorado/Dallas plays winner of Jets/Blues no matter what
Was that not just for the first round, then it’s reseeded by standings for round 2? If the Blues beat Winnipeg, I’m sure they play the highest seeded team because they were a WC team.

Edit: I thought they reseeded if a WC team advanced but I was wrong, Vegas it is.

They haven’t re-seeded teams in many many years as they want to keep fixed brackets all the way through. Have to win the division, then conference, then the Final.

I’m not the sharpest sometimes lol. I think some people in the pgt from the other night thought we might play Dallas yet so that might have lead to me thinking that too.

I wish they’d go back to the 1v8 format.

If we can play the series like we played Game 5 against LA, we could take it in 5. If we play like Game 6, it could be a Vegas sweep. Probably somewhere in between, so Oilers in 7.

My last vote was Oilers in 4. Since we won, I am legally required to make the exact same prediction this round. I don't even want to!
