Where do the Oilers finish the year?

Off topic but I have a funny feeling Calgary could upset them in the first round, if Calgary sneaks in as WC2. Otherwise, Vancouver, St.Louis or Utah would be first round fodder for them.
TBH we would want theJets winning and giving the Stars/avs all they can handle in round 2. I'm not as down and out on this Oilers team as some people are here.

1st/2nd round exit

The only thing that gives me some hope is that Vegas and LA didn’t do much at the deadline.

Doubful that the team gets past the third round though.

Too many issues with the team:
- Goaltending
- Lack of Offense
- PP isn’t elite/historical and PK is atrocious
- Team is prone to slow starts and poor first periods. Tend to start slow in playoffs rounds. I don’t think they will overcome it.

In previous years, the main reason they got past LA is because they scorched them on the PP and LA PP couldn’t do anything.

This is a weird year.

Colorado and Tampa shored up their weaknesses, but they're not the absolute wagons they were in the past.

Every other team has significant flaws.
The issue the Oilers face is our goaltending disadvantage in every series.
We're not an elite team this year. We're a decent team that has a puncher chance.

50/50 chance we beat the teams in the Pacific
25% chance we beat any of the Central teams (including Minny).

I don't think we make it to the Finals, but if we do, I don't think we can beat either Florida team.

For us to win a cup, All the stars have to align:
- We need to regain form we haven't shown in months, and remain 100% healthy.
- The other team needs significant injuries to their star players (like the Canes cup win in 06).

I sincerely hope I’m wrong but I voted out in the 2nd round. Barring a large change in our fortunes, we are almost certainly playing the Kings in round 1. I think we have just enough of a talent edge to squeak past them, but they are better than last year while we are objectively worse. That’ll leave us battered and bruised just in time to probably hit Vegas on the 2nd round. I can’t see us getting past Vegas. Sadly. If we do, I doubt we are getting any further than that. Maybe Nuge stops being a ghost, and we get “playoff” versions instead of the limp dick versions of Arvidsson, Brown, Henrique and Bouchard. Kane magically contributes and Stu Skinner eliminates the freebies from his game. That’s a lot to ask. So it’s probably not happening.

With how this team keeps stubbing it's toe any time it has a chance to make a move to catch Vegas, I can't see this team winning the division and frankly home ice vs LA is starting to become a concern. I think Edmonton still has the horses to beat LA since they didn't do a lot to improve, but at some point you'd think the tides will turn as beating the same team 4 years in a row in the playoffs is pretty rare.

Vegas will play with their food against this team. Might win 2 games on the strength of big nights from McDrai, but I can't see Stu improving on his career 3.57 GAA and 0.860 Save Percentage for games played in the 2nd round.

Who knows. Everything with this team is so f***ed up and wildly inconsistent that at this point I wouldn't be surprised if all of a sudden he stole a series.

I jest. Hoping for a random swing in the right direction after this random swing in the wrong direction is all we have to hope for. Everything with this team is random.

In some ways the Dallas series was as close to a stolen series as you can by him (.922 save percentage) and 5 quality starts out of 6. So yes, he has that ability. He even had 5 of 7 decent starts in the cup final .

The concern is that in his prior 4 rounds he was f***ing awful with as many Really Bad Starts (worse than .850) than Quality Starts (save perentage above league average) and 5 pulls in total over 22 games.

I've given up expecting any form of consistency or normality from this group. Everything is random with them, and it changes quickly and unexpectedly in both directions good or bad.

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if this group limp dicked their way into the playoffs in 3rd or a wild card spot only to steam roll through whoever we play Game 1 and look like a whole new group and never look back. It's just the kind of thing we do here.

Maybe, they are just trying to time up their next 16 game winning streak to start April 19th.

38% still think they're winning the cup this year 😮 I'll be shocked if they get out of the 1st round. Would love to think that they'll get a goalie this summer and go deep next season, but this management group gives me 0 hope.
