The Canes did everything but score on that pp. That man advantage looked worlds better than 95% of the ones last year including ones we scored on. Keep that up please.

How does it look?

Really dang big.

My seats are close to the very top of the end zone, so one of the places you’d worry about obstruction. Here’s the view:

So really not any different from an obstruction standpoint than it was before.

Obviously I’m looking at the short (lol) end so it’s less overwhelming than on the sides. But even in the end zone from far away, it’s just massive. It makes a real difference on replays. The display is crisp, and the curved corners make a neat effect as there’s no “edge” to the picture.

It feels like they can probably do more with it, but they didn’t really break out the bells and whistles tonight.

Oh, and they have managed to trigger my inner old man on a petty detail.

Why the hell would you have a time-out counter in a hockey game? You have this clean minimalist design — time, score, shots — and you’re going to clutter it with a constant reminder of whether each team has 1 or 0 time outs left? That can’t be handled some other way than right on the main scoreboard display?

That scoreboard is friggen massive. No other way to say it. But it's not distracting at all.

It actually has better resolution than the cameras that broadcast to it. When they do crowd shots and replays it's noticeably blurry as opposed to when they do on screen graphics. Would not be surprised if they replace those cameras in the near future.

This surprised me a bit. It integrates really nicely into the rink. My eyes were on the game the whole time, and then when there was an actual reason to look at the scoreboard it was easily visible at a glance (no squinting). I expected it to be a bit of a distraction at first, but it actually felt less distracting than the other board. Maybe because the other one had so much crap going on all the time.

The lack of any ads tonight helped, but yeah. It just works.

It's what you wished that replays would be.
