Plekanec and Markov should be re-signed and not to used as trade bait.

(more in markov's case)

Personally i'd want these two to finish their careers here. Both have been used in every on-ice situation and have been the dictionary example of consistant. Home grown players who've been nothing but professionals and class act. They are a testament to how our organization treats foreign born players. They are, and have been the core of the team for the longest time and have bled the organizations colours.

Plekanec, sure. Markov, no.

Markov lacks mobility and struggles against fast forwards.
Markov lacks physicality and struggles against big players.
Markov as "one of the best PPQBs in the league", runs one of the worst PPs in the league.

We don't need to be spending 6mil and term on that. I'm not saying he's bad, just highly exploitable moving forward. We've got a lot of big contracts to sign (Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Beaulieu, Tinordi etc.) in the next couple of years. Love the sentiment but it doesn't make much business sense.

No offence, but someone who doesn't see how much Markov helps this team doesn't really see the game. He's great, such a smart player. He's really learned how to adapt his game to his slower footspeed, which is something a lot of older players have trouble with.

Definitely, and when the trade deadline comes around and people suggest we trade them, I'll be there to argue against it.

That x 1000.

Sign Markov for 3 years at 6M. No problem. He's worth it, totally.

Plekanec was on the ice for 47% of Stamkos' shifts in GM 1, 58% in GM 2, 59% in GM 3, 78% in GM 4.

Stamkos ended the series with 2 goals and 4 points in 4 games (he's sill Stamkos), and hasn't scored a goal since game one. The Plekanec line dominated the advanced stats.

THIS.

It's ridiculous how some people want Markov to be a physical dman. That's not his game at all.

Look at it this way.

You let Markov walk, investing his contract money to further solidify our forward crop, singing Plekanec and Vanek to long term deals, Gionta to a short one, and finally the rookies (Gally, Galchy and Bournival) when their contracts come around.

With the newly created space at the blueline you start grooming Beaulieu properly.

Subban, Tinordi, Beaulieu, Emelin, Gorges + 6th (Weaver for example, who is both cheap and reliable).

Did Markov slept with you girlfriend/mom or something? You bash in every single of your post.

Markov was a big reason why we shut Stamkos down. Plekanec also was very good.

Btw- Guess who had the most ice time on the team once again tonight.

Markov may not be a prototypical dman, but he has gotten a lot more physical this year and its been an important part of his transition game as he's grown older. I think he's realized he isn't as quick anymore and he is smart enough to adapt to include more physicality.

He will never be a bruiser but he is way more physical than he use to be.

oh my how a successful series can change things.

There's actually a group who's felt these two are not expendable all year long. Both players with tremendous hockey minds. Markov may have list a step and does get beat to the outside more than in years part but what he brings to the team outweighs his imperfections. Anyone who can't see what Plekanec brings to the table isn't watching the right game.

I'm not sure why they should be resigned..they just won a playoff series..they are likely pretty excited and eager to keep winning.

Both should be re-signed as long as their demands are reasonable.

They've never been as good as right now come playoff time. Let's not forget the TBL didn't look like a 101 point team and Lindback stunk up the joint. We'll see what they're made when we face Boston.

This. Markov has been just unreal. He is doing all the small things and sneaking in off the point more now than all season. Pleks had a good game, but I still don't like that he doesn't pass enough. When he does, bang gally scores.

Lets wait until we play a legitimate team, please. I personally think Pleks should be kept and possibly Mrkov dpending on how much he wants.

If Pleks and Markov end up sucking or disappearing during the next series, we already know someone will pop a thread asking for their heads. Fan boards are totally consumed by the recency effect. It makes for great banter.
