Post-Game Talk: Please Disburse, Nothing To See Here! Seattle 6, Oilers 1

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Michaels in the idiot broadcast last night. "The Oilers are starting to slide from first place" "Starting" lol check the standings. Then he says the Oilers haven't secured 2nd place yet. No shit sherlock, Oilers behind Kings and they have a game in hand. These mooks don't even look at the standings and or check details.

The only positions likely are 2nd or 3rd at this point.

Because the club is so bad its likely rushing Drai back to action instead of telling him to just wait a bit. So that we have Drai playing, faster than expected back, and the game is against Calgary. What possible thing could go wrong? Would be nice if the mooks on this club could hold up the club a bit the very rare times they are without Drai.

I get immediately what the other posters concern is.

Would rather rest up Leon and McD for as long as possible and them in most ideal shape for playoffs.
This is my concern too. A losing streak that has threatened their home ice advantage in the playoffs. The perfect opportunity to rush him back…

Thanks to their inability to win in regulation they don’t have the tiebreaker either.

Always assume the worst. You’ll more often than not be correct with this team.
I don't want to go to that place. Frustrating thing about the org and team is they don't set themselves up to take it easy down the stretch. So commonly its this situation where we need our stars. Reality is Oilers need likely 3-4 more wins in 10 games minimally. 10 games left and still not close to mathematical playoff spot.

They won’t miss the playoffs. The division is too weak, but starting round 1 on the road would be… what’s a tier lower than disastrous?

They had the division title in their sights then completely cratered out east. Meanwhile the Knights and Kings just keep winning.

Drai's a machine so I could see him wanting to come back sooner. I also think he wants to, for better or for worse, hit 50G which is great but ugh, seems like each year, McDrai try to force themselves to accomplish xyz milestones.

Or maybe he’s just ready to go?

Its guaranteed Drai would want to play. heh. I'm hoping just for this game the game time decision is no, and factoring in who the opponent is. I don't trust the Flames.

Optimistic view is that the team seems to play the best when their backs are against the wall and it looks doom and gloomy... and they are going to have that again this season down the stretch and into the playoffs so hopefully they can muster up some of that "Dig the f*** in" attitude and do something in the playoffs.

Pessimistic view is that this is a very mediocre, middling type team this year...

9th on the PP... where they should be #1 or at least very close to it with the skill they have on the PP.

23rd on the PK... very mediocre and a definite step back from last season.

8th in GF/game and 15th in GA/game... a step back from last year in both categories.

22nd in shooting pct which we can see with their lack of finish. 19th in save pct which we can see with their mediocre goaltending.

The only decent category is shots differential where they are 1st in shots per game and 10th in shots against per game. That's what has kept them propped up all season as they get 5 more shots on average than their opposition... which cushions the low finishing abilities and low save pct abilities.

Rest Draisaitl. Rest Ekholm. Rest Hyman if he needs it. Play Walman on the first unit. Demote Bouchard to the third pairing. Let's see how things pan out, for better or worse.

The Oil are first round fodder if they refuse to take the inside lanes and keep up this Fancy Dan perimeter bullshit that the fanosphere insists is "hard working hockey"...

This is where added Kane and Frederic will help the most.

Imo the big problem for the Oil is they don't have the size to win in the dirty areas. Draisaitl, Hyman, Perry, Janmark, and the occasional Max Jones: those are their only forwards north of 200lb, and Jones is the only one above 210.

Even other smaller teams like CAR or TB still have a Staal or Paul, who can lean on defenceman and win battles in dirty areas. Meanwhile the Oil are always at a size disadvantage vs. another teams' biggest top 4 defencemen and they're easily contained.
