If you count Kane and Frederick it’s even way above 30Yeah they also had 30 million out of the lineup, but goaltending a huge concern as it’s been all year

You think any of these guys could survive a bag skate? That's the kinda performance bagskates were invented for..
Yeah I don't know why this game had to coincide with a city wide paralyzing dump of first rain, sleet, and then snow which is just covering the ice under everything. Glad I wasn't out driving last night or that the home game wasn't last night. The drive home from the game would've been nuts. City busses all over the city not making it up hills. Trucks sliding out of control
Some of the players are so old It might do them in.That's the kinda performance bagskates were invented for..
If the Oilers were smart, they’d sign Olivier Rodrigue to back up next year and replace Schwartz with Sylvain Rodrigue. He’s a well known goalie coach and with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL this season.I hope that Rodrigue will be immune to the Schwartz effect since his dad is a goalie coach. He will basically let Schwartz help him practice but only listen to his dad.
I mean you aren’t wrong. Not an acceptable performance but it was sort of a perfect storm. On a positive note, it should be noted it was 2nd of a back to back. The team didn't get to their hotel room until 4:30 a.m., after just finished playing an intense 60 minute game against a tough opponent. Hockey players are creatures of habit, and this likely didn't help. This really was their first stinker in a while, after stringing together a good run of games. It also can't be overstated how much Ekholm means to this team, and not having him left a big hole, moving everyone else out of their comfort zone. Got absolutely jobbed by the league with the disallowed goal, which set the tone that it wasn't going to be their night. After that, it just snowballed. It happens.
I expect we'll see a very solid effort on Saturday against the Flames, as they reset.
The early goal disallowed turned the tide too.I mean you aren’t wrong. Not an acceptable performance but it was sort of a perfect storm.
5 AM bed time, 2nd half of a back to back and on the road. McDavid, Drai, Ekholm, Skinner, Kane, Frederic, all not playing and Hyman banged up. That is about as much adversity as a team can face.
Kane hasn't played a game of hockey in ages and is also aging. Even when last seen he's not the Kane people are thinking about.I think we will be fine. Adding McDavid, Draisaitl, Kane and Frederic is 4 of the top 6 forwards on this team (Hyman and RNH the others). That is a huge change and bumps other guys down into the bottom 6 where they belong. Skinner needs to be healthy and play better when he is in net (I know he wasn't in net last night). I'm just saying for the playoffs. Pickard won't get this team to where it needs to be. Skinner needs to play at his highest level that we've seen and I feel like when we dress a full team with those 4 forwards back you will see it in the playoffs. We will be fine.
Yeah I just can't see how people think Kane is going to hit the ground running after being unhealthy for well over a season. The 2022 Kane is looooong gone in so many ways.Kane hasn't played a game of hockey in ages and is also aging. Even when last seen he's not the Kane people are thinking about.
Heres a problem with this club. Its the opposite of the club in 1990 that got traction through the org adding clever and crucial youth additions to their lineup adding energy.
For the 24-25 season the org made the inept decision to lose all their youth and ice this old club, the oldest in the NHL. A team with very little jump, energy and the whole season this club hasn't really found its traction.
Unfortunately all the players not playing got a good glimpse of what lineup is around them. They probably already sensed that. Other than Drai something has been wrong this season with most of the team. Some playing well enough but few this season are all in.
Even with all our players back is this looking like a club ready for a 2month marathon of playoff hockey? Even with the legs last season the team ran out of gas sometime in the Dallas series. We won game 6 despite being vastly outplayed. We had to inject young lets we no longer have into the lineup in the final and give them bigger roles. The org then decides it doesn't even need those players.

Sure we can look at that. But lets look at the last month or so or longer. By now its annoying when the telecast brays on that the 2nd period is the Oilers best period coming up. How many games has there been in last 20 where the 2nd period was abysmal? This isn't just last night. This team seems lacking in energy and I think some of that is age and another large part holding up goaltending for years. It's hard to really make much of this game when the team got to Seattle at 4 am, and played the night before. It even looked like that. There's energy disadvantages and then there's that

The answer doesn't seem in the room now to me. What do we make of this season? In entirety? This is the worst win % the club has had for several years. Indeed the worst since we were missing playoffs those years under McLellan. Then as mentioned our standings are entirely propped by a 11-5 extra time record. Without whacky 3 on 3 circus we're on the very edge. In regulation this club hasn't been good, on the whole, the sum of this season.
I guess they forgot about all the games where the Oilers "dominated" the first and failed to score then went into the tank in the second period.I want to scream whenever I hear this.
Like a lot of things with this team, the second was a strength, then we decided for some reason to make it a liability about two months ago and not do anything about it.
I don't know that its that or that the club is more fatigued than the one that trotted out the best 2nd periods in the league from about game 10-50. But even that club were "settling" into games in first periods and finding their feet in the 2nd. Not sure what to make of this club this season.I want to scream whenever I hear this.

Isn't that what Max Jones is/was supposed to be?Well I'll take a physical 4th liner for this team... that's an element they can sorely use.

this should be the Oilers slogan going forward
I get they didn’t know Kane would be out all season but the Frederic trade is hilarious.
Not only did we trade for a player who is probably on IR until the playoffs.. we gave up assets for teams to take some of his salary.
I think Kane will be a top half of the roster forward. Unfortunately, that’s not really me endorsing Kane…Yeah I just can't see how people think Kane is going to hit the ground running after being unhealthy for well over a season. The 2022 Kane is looooong gone in so many ways.
Pretty hard to just change the schedule based on a dump of snow. This is Edmonton in spring, happens all the time.Yeah I don't know why this game had to coincide with a city wide paralyzing dump of first rain, sleet, and then snow which is just covering the ice under everything. At least it's a nice warm rain...The thing that gets me with Kane is they knew he would be out until the TDL. His no move came off a few days prior to the TDL, so faced with the prospect of losing Holloway for next to nothing they could have easily matched, gone into LTIR and deal with Kane and any potential overage in the week prior to the deadline.
Listening to Bowman and President of Hockey Idiot Operations Jeff Jackson, they had their hands firmly tied which couldnt be further from the truth.
What really pisses me off is we get guys like Lowe, MacT, Chiarelli, Holland, Nicholson, Jackson and Bowman who come in here and think the fans here are idiots and not engaged, like we are in Miami or Carolina or San Jose. This is perhaps the most engaged knowledgeable fan base in the league yet executives keep coming in, piss on our backs and tell us it's raining. Meanwhile every sunbelt no state tax team with a fan base that would barely fill Commonwealth, wins cup after cup after cup with the best management teams money can buy.
Sick of this shit the Oilers management keep trying to sell fans. "Trades are hard" "We had no choice" "I have no regrets"....... f*** off you entitled windbags.
I don't think they're much, the Pacific division is generally very weak. That said where we are in standings indicates this club, this season, it ain't much either. Still holding out hope theres some other gear but the Oilers haven't been playing that well for months.
