Vilardi with his 20th goal of the season. The RCMP should put out an arrest warrant for Chevy.
PLD has only 4 points less than Vilardi (38 vs 42) and is outscoring Gabe at 5v5 by a margin of 27 - 21 while playing centre

When adding in Iafallo's production, Kupari's presence on the ice (lol) and Friej's potential, I'm still very happy with the deal. That said, if PLD were still here and playing like he is this season in WSH as our 2C, I'd be happy with that, too

The really strange part is that PLD for Kuemper was largely regarded as an "our garbage for your garbage" trade but Kuemper has really bounced back well in LA too. The big losers in all this has to be CBJ

vilardi was a great add and PLD was a bust in LA but is playing v well in WSH. Iafallo and Kupari are both w/e & replaceable pieces to me.

however, i think it's pertinent to note for the 2nd year post PLD we will likely be trying to add another 2c or top6F to replace him.

so, the three years prior to PLD the Jets traded a 1st + 1st + 4th + Foley + Lemieux for Stastny, Eakin and Hayes to fulfill 2c.

no trades for top-6F or 2C the 3 years PLD is here.

first year PLD is gone: trade 1st+cond 3rd for Monahan.... and what this year? i think that needs to be taken a bit into consideration.
If PLD had wanted to stay, Chevy would've gladly signed him to that 8x$8.5M contract and kept him.
bruh ppl wanted to give him that deal plus captain

Crazy when you think they added a 2nd round pick to sweeten the deal to montreal.

Interesting to see PLD return to form so to speak and is doing so on the best team in the NHL.

Was definitely a good deal for us still though as all three parts are contributing in one way or another, and as a poster above said, it was Columbus that ended up with a net loss.

Had PLD stayed, who are our top 6 wingers? Connor, Ehlers, Perfetti and Nino?

I guess you slide Barron to play with Lowry and Apples and pick up some guys for the 4th line... but I think Chevy still would have looked to upgrade the top 6 for a playoff run

And I'd have been fine with 8x8 to fix the 2C position for the rest of Helle's window. Would have allowed us to pivot to filling the top 4 RHD hole

The problem was PLD wasn’t going to sign with us

So the return is based on getting something for someone who wouldn’t be here. Talk of extending him for Helle’s window and having a 2C locked down etc is all moot
This is a good point. Chevy did amazingly well for a player who had no intentions of staying. We do need Chevy to make one more big splash though.

Agreed, but who is going the other way in this big splash? Perfetti? One or more of our pending UFAs? Picks and top prospects?

Gotta give to get.

Personally I'd Have Perfetti in the trade category, I'm also okay with putting Perfetti and our 2025 1st in play for a # 2 center or top 4 RHD with some team control. We might have to add a prospect to that depending on the player, the only 2 prospects I would have in the please don't trade category is Yager and Salo.

Agreed.

Salomonsson is very close, imo. Though he’s missed a fair bit of his season so far, it would be very difficult to keep him on the Moose one more year. He’ll be good enough to play in the NHL next season, imo.

Yager likely needs at least 1 yr in AHL, maybe 2, to develop his offence and pro game.

You're missing the point

Had he hypothetically wanted to stay, that would have worked out fine

Since we aren't discussing things that are moot because they didn't happen/won't happen, maybe let the Stanley haters know that bitching about him being in the line up is moot too

While I'm very happy with the haul for PLD and while he bombed in LA he is playing really well for the Caps. That being said I'm glad Chevy made the trade and got what he got
