GDT: PLAYOFFS: Shout at the Devils

They were a little sloppy to start but turned it around in the 2nd. Playoffs are tough. No team wants to go home, and Jersey with Markström is far from a gimme. They have plenty of talent to make this series interesting.

The Devils were employing a very Canes-esque start to that game with a heavy forecheck. They couldn't really sustain it once the momentum shifted, but Canes will need to be ready for the same start in game 3. Overall that was a great come back win! Maybe those 21 come back wins in the regular season are paying dividends.

On a side note where the f*** is Jankowski? My avatar needs him. 8 goals on 21 shots and a good face off guy. Why is he sitting? Mostly rhetorical but I would like to see him at some point.

I kinda think he will draw back in for a game in NJ but who knows

Jordo has had pretty limited I’ve time so far this series. Expect to see that increase on the road. Jarvis is leading in ice time among forwards

Ice time has really been managed well across the board. Slavin’s leading the team at just 21:29, pretty good for your #1 D.

You have to wonder how we can convert rest and health into an advantage moving forward. If we make it to the ECF, we’ll decidedly be behind whoever we play in the team skill category. But if we can win the war of attrition we could even the odds.

The team needs to spend 12 hours today practicing the pp.

One unit going forward

Jarvis Aho Svech
Nikishin Hall

Rest Ghost game 3 in NJ let's see how Nikishin’s defensive game is.

Jersey had the 2nd best PK% behind the Canes. With how they've struggled on the PP this season, I don't think 12 hours will make much difference. It is what it is at this point. They'll have to win games 5v5. At least they're used to that, though.

Ghost was excellent last night. Uber confident when he had the puck in the offensive zone, making things happen, very mobile. If anyone should sit it shouldn't be him. Orlov on the other hand......I counted at least 10 turnovers and thankfully NJ doesn't have the horses to make him pay.

It was probably overlooked in the excitement, but I wanted to give Hamilton credit at the end of the game. Jarvis has the partial breakaway for the empty net, Hamilton right on his heels, and you can see Dougie start to make the slashing motion towards Jarvis, but then he holds back. Not every player would have done that. In fact, I’m sure there are more than a few who would have hacked away to “accidentally” hit Jarvis’ hand or arm at the end there.

Roslovic vs. Jankowski is really about priorities, especially because both are playing great hockey. Do you want size down the middle (Jank) or do you want a guy who takes right-handed faceoffs (Roslovic)? It's a good problem to have.
I think Roslovic was really good in game 1, but was rough in game 2. I doubt Rod is going to throw him out there with the chance of NJ matching Hiescher or Bratt against them. With Carrier and Robinson that line at least can hold its own in a bad matchup.

Good game. Only was able to watch the last half.

Honestly Brett Pesce was the best player on the ice. Phenomenal defensive play, shift-by-shift. He was a warrior. He was winded on the bench when I watched him and he was hustling and busting it out there. He not only made those miraculous goal-stopping saves, he also got in front of shooting lanes and was capable in transition. He's a warrior and I miss him.

Second best player for me was Jesper Bratt. Easily the most dangerous forward all around.

For me, I think the third best player was Markstrom. Andersen was great, but I thought Markstrom had to do a little bit more, even if he let in one more goal.

Our forecheck and puck pressure looked great. I guess I'm fortunate I missed the first period so I didn't see how we looked at our worst.
