That’s what playoff hockey is, no? There’s nothing to fear that hockey already doesn’t bring imo. Play hard, take your licks and give them when you can but stick to your game plan. You don’t win without battling and getting bruised in the playoffs.
Not to pick on you friend, but this sentiment of physical fear is really starting to annoy me. This is playoff hockey and a lot of Habs have been getting run all season, they’re ready imo.
Yes, but even that has changed over time. Players will finish their checks with more regularity in the playoffs, but players no longer try to to run guys through the wall anymore on the forcheck... it used to be particularly bad for dmen.
I'm not sure exactly when it shifted, but I think the quenneville Hawks were a part of it. When they were having their success, quenneville was big on stick positions on the forcheck rather than just taking the body out.
I also recall dale weise talking about this when recalling his time in chicago.
