#1 Stevie Y wasn’t fortunate enough to be handed elite 1D & 1C to kickoff Det rebuild as he did in Tbay

He also got lucky in the draft, which no one can really account for.

Like I don't think Yzerman has been bad in Detroit, but he hasn't lucked out like he did in getting Cirelli and Point in the 3rd round. Those were good picks, but I doubt anyone thought they'd hit like they did.

The strategy of taking educated risks at the draft works, but it isn't necessarily going to get you foundational pieces.

Yes and No - Al Murray was Team Canadas chief scout after getting the axe from LAK. Timing couldn’t be better Murray had Point & Cirelli on his radar / scouting them from the time they were 14.

So when he was named TBay Dir of Scouting he already had inside knowledge on both players.

Stevie Ys success IMO was due to having inside knowledge from having worked at NHL HQ prior to being named TBay GM, and knowing first hand there was a movement underway w owners having bought in towards more speed / skill & enforcing penalties, because of the concussion lawsuits that were percolating about to hit the courts. Combine that with KHL stand-off on transfer agreement and voila, Kucherov drops into 2nd round due to “Russian not showing up fear”

About to disappear was the Cup winning roster strategies of Bruins & LAK…

Notice 5yrs into his role as chief scout Murray’s track record fell off the cliff - his contacts on junior teams had moved on to other roles. I’m convinced Amateur scouting is so dependent on “who you know at the right time” more so than any brilliant “scouting eye”

As they say, timing is everything …

Does anyone know when playoff tickets may go on sale to the public through the Canadiens? I know season ticket holders already got theirs about a week ago and are re selling on StubHub in advance (all games pending of course) and it’s about $660 per ticket to sit in the 300s.
Do they do a waiting room type release for playoff games like they do for regular season tickets before the season?

So if Panthers, Sabres and Rags all win in regulation tonight, Magic number will be down to 1!

Correct.

Here are the scenarios after tonight's games (BUF vs. CBJ / FLA vs. DET / NYR vs. NYI)

Basically, if anyone loses in regulation tonight, Habs need 1 point to eliminate them.

If anyone loses in OT/SO, Habs need 2 points to eliminate them.

If anyone wins, Habs will still need 3 points to eliminate them.

However, some intricacies:

- If NYR lose to NYI tonight in any fashion, NYR are eliminated because the most they can get to in such a case is 86 pts. MTL is already sitting at 87.

- If CBJ lose to BUF in regulation, they're eliminated. Mathematically, they could catch us in points if they win their next 4 games in regulation and Habs lose all of their games. In such a scenario, they would also tie us in RWs. But the next tiebreaker are ROWs, and Habs have 37 while they have 29. So in conclusion, a regulation loss means they're eliminated.

He didn't even want Caufield. He wanted to trade the pick and Timmins refused. Churla, Lapointe and Timmins were all saying "we pick Caufield". There's a draft video that shows this clearly.

AFAIAC, our cupboard when HuGo took over was all Timmins, Churla & Lapointe. Bergevin was sidelined in his last few years at the draft.

When i say bergevin, I'm speaking of the management team in general. Ultimately, bergevin was the GM and the result falls on him.

We need all of Detroit, Columbus and NYI to lose in regulation tonight.

7 PM: Detroit @ Florida - Panthers are resting everybody it seems. Both Cats & Wings are 4-5-1 in their last 10. Florida won their last game at home against Toronto, who are a much tougher opponent than Detroit, so maybe Cats are actually putting in an effort in front of their fans.

Detroit is under .500 on the road. Go Florida Go! Win in regulation, please!

7 PM: Buffalo @ Columbus - Sabres have won 5 consecutive games and are 8-2-0 in last 10 games. In 6 of those games, they've scored 4 or more goals. Thompson is on absolute fire. He's 6 goals away from a 50g season.

Columbus is a strong home team, and will be desperate, but their goaltending is a horror show. It's possible for a collapse to happen against Buffalo's offense, which is 7th best in the NHL. This could be one of those crazy high scoring games we've seen recently as Sabres aren't exactly a quality defensive team either.

7:30 PM: Rangers @ Islanders - It's a back-to-back for NYR, but not for NYI. However, Sorokin is injured, and may be out for the season. Pulock cross checked McCarron into Sorokin AFTER big Mike had already scored. Unsurprisingly, Sorokin was injured when the 6'6, 235lb McCarron fell on him. Smooth move Pulock!

We need a Rangers regulation win here. The Rangers are playing with no life right now, but hopefully the goaltending is on their side, as Shesterkin is playing. That might be enough.

It's a bit pedantic on my part but we are past the point of needing other teams to win/lose certain games. Now sure it's certainly better for those teams to get eliminated as quickly as possible so that we are comfortable resting some guys but that's a far cry from "need".

I would prefer to get that play-off X beside our name as quickly as possible.

If things go our way tonight, we can clinch tomorrow against Ottawa.
