Only one game to monitor tonight:

- NYR reg. loss vs. PHI: NYR reg. loss = MTL remains 8 pts ahead of NYR and all MTL will need is 1 point to eliminate NYR.

The key goal is to hit 90 pts, which means Habs need 3 pts in their final 4 games. They hit 90, they clinch their spot because right now, NYR, DET, NYI & CBJ all have 79 pts with 5 games left. So they can only max out at 89 pts.

And considering the Islanders will face both Columbus and NYR, not all of these teams can reach 89 points.

And Detroit has 5 games left against Florida, Lightning, Dallas, Devils and Toronto, with 2 back to back and only one game left at home will be near impossible to reach 89 points.

I think we should look ahead.

3 points from Ottawa.
Let's go!!!

Oh yea, I wasn't insinuating they all have a chance to hit 89 pts. I was only saying that at least one team can still win their remaining 5 games and get to 89 pts.

By the time they play on Friday, they might not need to hit 90 anymore because NYR is playing a back-to-back tonight and tomorrow. DET, CBJ, and NYI also play. NYI/NYR play on Thursday.

Looking darn good they make it. What would be preferred, overtake Ottawa as it's possible and face Toronto or Tampa or stay put and face the Capitols.
Definitely don't want to face Tampa, they've dominated us in prior playoffs, Kuch, Point, Hedman and Vasil always find a way to take over and Cooper is a great coach.
Success against Toronto may or may not happen, maybe they learned something from our last playoff appearance.
Yes, I'd rather take our chances against Washington.

I agree. For the simple fact that if you get past the Caps, the Canes never fail to lose in Round 2
