Can we beat the Caps? What is our season series against them?

We played them 3 times. We lost 6-3 October 31st. Then lost 4-2 December 7th. And, finally won 3-2 (OT) January 10th.

1-2-0 for Montreal.
2-0-1 for Washington.

In the first game, they out-played Montreal, but our rush offense was keeping it pretty even. It was 3-3 after 2, but we absolutely collapsed in 3rd giving up 3 goals. Primeau in net didn't help.

In the 2nd game, we definitely out-played them in the first 2 periods. We had at least 6 breakaways that game & no one could convert on any of them. Logan Thompson stole that game. Montreal was leading 2-1 after 2, but then gave up 3 goals in 3rd period again. Montembeault was in net.

The final game was after Carrier joined the team & Laine came back. We were on a hot streak. It was our 9th win in 11 games. We completely out-played them. We doubled them in shots & pushed the pace. Dobes was in net.

3 games, 3 different goalies.

Washington has the NHL's #1 offense & is 9th defensively. I don't think they're that good defensively. They're just getting solid goaltending. And, everyone is pretty much having an above average year offensively for them.

Imo, we played them well in all 3 games. We can match their speed, so as long as we stay defensively conscious we'll be competitive. Thompson has proven to be tough to beat for us at times, while our goaltending has been inconsistent.

It's Saturday!!

Games today:

12:30 PM: NYR @ NJD - Both NYR & NJD have won 2 consecutive games. Both are 5-4-1 in last 10. New Jersey's home record is below average for a play-off team (only 18-13-5, which is the worst home record for all playoff teams in East. Only Minnesota has a worst home record for playoff teams). Rangers are an above average road team.

It should be Markstrom vs Shesterkin. Marky is 3-1-1 in last 5 starts, but only has an .894 save percentage in those 5 games. Shesterkin is 2-2-1 in his last 5 starts with a .880 save percentage.

How are these teams winning with such shitty goaltending! Both teams have almost identical numbers offensively. New Jersey is a much better defensive team.

We obviously want a New Jersey win here, but this one is a 50-50 toss up. Go Devils!

7 PM: Columbus @ Toronto - The Blue Jackets have an absolutely horrible road record. If they could play even .500 on the road, they'd be a sure playoff team. Toronto has a strong home record. The Leafs have clinched a playoff spot, but Berube has made getting home ice at least through the first 2 rounds a priority. Who knows with the Leafs, though. They're known for throwing up putrid games against poor teams (see San Jose). Columbus will be desperate. Toronto won't be. We need Toronto to win, though.

7 PM: Philadelphia @ Montreal: Revenge time! Just win, baby! (Also, stop f***ing passing the puck to Michkov, Matheson! Holy shit, dude.)

10 PM: Vegas @ Flames - Minnesota keeps losing, so Flames are still in danger of making the playoffs. With a win, they can move to within 3 points of Minnesota with a game in hand & a game left against Minnesota.

Vegas & Calgary are both 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, but Vegas has lost 2 consecutive games. Flames have a much better home record than Vegas' road record. Vegas has clinched a playoff spot, but not the division yet. Calgary will be desperate knowing they're still in the fight, while Vegas won't be.

I don't have high hopes for Vegas in this one, but they need to win.
