Desired results tonight, MTL has some comfort ahead of these teams, but them losing will only make it even more cushiony:

- DET reg. loss vs. CAR: DET reg. loss = MTL will remain 6 pts ahead of DET.
- NYI reg. loss vs. MIN: NYI reg. loss = MTL will remain 7 pts ahead of NYI.

all teams will be at 75 GP and will have 7 games remaining.

Timing means alot. The flyers have won 3 in a row, and they just so happened to fire their coach to start that streak before playing montreal.

Had they not fired him, montreal probably walks out of philly with 2 points while the flyers sleep. Then you are looking at a 4 pt lead for monteal over the rangers right now. Playoffs wouldnt be a guarantee but there would have been breathing room that montreal has never had thus far.

Now the flyers can extend their winning streak to 4 and possibly have montreal out of a playoff spot by the end of saturday.

The timing for the habs to encounter the flyers stinks and they need to end their coach bump streak immediately.

This is one of the reasons im weary of the schedule strength arguments. I put more value in how teams are currently trending and why they are trending.

I was happily in the tank thread earlier this year and I still don't like MSL as a coach. That said, it's been a while since every goal gets the happy dance out of me.
Marty is becoming a much better bench coach as he progresses with the team.
Even last night he managed to get our top line out against Pasta who was by far the easiest line to play against. I had to let him know to do it in the first intermission (GDT) before he did though.

FWIW, Roger Grillo has been attending more games in person as eyes in the sky…

I used to hate Dvorak
I used to hate him too, but now I'm becoming very fond of the smileless gangsta

A team that is in tank mode will often mask the true value of some of the unheralded and often mocked and maligned players that receive the brunt of the fan's contemptuousness. Ergo perhaps why some players were not moved by the helmsman during that timeframe until when being in a more desirable state when those players true worth is on display. Might that not suggest that they see and know more than the boisterous and at times, belligerent fans and are navigating the ship in the manner that they envisioned that will take them where they want to go.
Yeesh. Incomprehensible bizarre writing.

Especially starting tonight with tampa then a mad florida on the weekend after losing to mtl x2 and toronto. Then b2b with columbus. Doubt they win all of those. Then after tbose 4 its the battle with mtl in the 11th. Be an interesting last couple of weeks. But of course mtl has to take care of their own business but it is possible mtl can overtake ottawa
It’s basically Habs or rags now. Habs must win every game they can. Rags are surging.

If the bottom-6 of this team wasn’t as effective (dominant?) throughout the season, if the much maligned Matheson didn’t absorb 25TOI+ for much of the season allowing management of Hutson’s time to absorb the NHL & grow…

Habs came into the season as a sum of all parts team, and remain so. If the bottom-6 are complete no shows, there isn’t anything Suzuki & Hutson can do to overcome that void…
If my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle.

Carolina is terrible....
If we make it then I honestly think round 1 would be the toughest round for us besides for round 4.

Assuming we get Washington and beat them, then we'd either get Carolina or a Devils team missing Jack Hughes, neither are really world beaters. Then round 3 is either Florida/Ottawa who we're undefeated against this season or Toronto/Tampa. I think Tampa would be the worst match up for us there.

Sucks Detroit's winning. They'll be 4 points back & we still have a game against them. They're still hanging around. A loss tonight would have been the death knell for them.

Their next game is Saturday against Florida, who are basically injured right now. Then Tuesday @ Montreal.

4-2 Detroit after 2. Carolina definitely has the potential to come back. Let's hope they do.

NYI's are winning, too. They're definitely out, but we need Minnesota to win for the Calgary pick. A Minnesota loss means Calgary is 5 points back with two games in hand & a game still to play against the Wild. That's a potential 6 point swing.

Calgary's next game is Saturday against Vegas. It's a Flames home game.

NYI are winning 2-1 mid 2nd, so there's time for a Wild win still.
