Montreal needs to beat Philadelphia tomorrow. They'll move 3 points up on NYI & NYR.

Islanders don't have an easy weekend. They're @ TBL then @ Carolina on a back-to-back.

Final! Vancouver win 5-2 over NYI.
The Islanders then play the Lightning again on Tuesday. Also need a Sens win in regulation tomorrow over the Red Wings as they are some how still only 3 points behind the Habs

Yeah, the Habs really need the win in philly or this cold streak can get ugly real quick.

What I'll be looking for is whether they can still push the pace. I do have concerns whether they can outlast the fatigue factor down the stretch.

The 2 week break helped in that regard, but now they have lost 3 in a row and are entering a compressed phase of the schedule.

More fun to play golf than to get demolished after a grueling 82 games season. 🧐

I'm actually thinking that if the Habs make it, Gallagher's body might be finished for next year. It took him 2.5 years to recuperated the last time.
😞 you could be right. It would be nice to see Habs get in , if only for some fun banter on the board. But there’s no halak or price to create miracles. Fowler? 😉

Out of the teams battling for the last playoff spot, the Habs, Islanders, Rangers, Blue Jackets and Red Wings. The Habs have the most points in the last 10 games with 12 and Islanders have 11. Every other team has 7 or less points, so no one is able to take a stranglehold on the last spot

Our next 4 games are Philly, Carolina and Florida X2. If we can get 4 or more points out of those games we'll be in an excellent spot going into the home stretch.

After that we finish the season against Boston, Philly, Nashville, Detroit, Ottawa, Toronto, Chicago and Carolina. That's 6 very winnable games and 2 slightly more difficult games, but Toronto and Carolina may be resting players when we face them. If we win 4 of the 6 "easy" games and 1 of the "harder" games(plus the hypothetical 4 points in our next 4 games), then that'd put us at 89 points.

We have a very obtainable path to 89/90 points if we don't collapse.

All the playoffs teams are trying to push the pace & with all teams playing a condensed schedule it's tiring to do every game. NYI & Montreal have both been working hard, but Montreal collapsed last night & Islanders tonight.

Imo, only Montreal and NYI are really fighting for it. Detroit, NYR & Columbus are all playing miserable hockey.

With Columbus getting some of their injured back, they might gain new life.

Vancouver can help us out again by beating CBJ on Friday. Lol

Ottawa plays both Detroit & Columbus this week. Sens will view both games as playoff type games. Gotta cheer for the Sens.

Yeah, it could become a real turtle derby down the stretch. I thought at least somebody would catch fire and set a new bar (just based on the sheer number of teams in the hunt), but the runway is getting smaller and nobody seems to be taking charge as of yet.

They just need to come out strong tomorrow. No sitting on their asses and trying to come back from three goals again.

Philadelphia has all the reasons to give up if the game starts badly.

HFHabs survived the great crash of 2025!!!

I don't think anyone is even praying for a miracle here like in 2010. The goal of this season was be in the mix at the end of the season. Achieved. An added goal is obviously making the playoffs. Let just say they achieve that. At that point, nothing really matters in said playoffs. If they get swept, no one will bat an eye or demean the habs. They'll just say they had a good run to the playoffs but were obviously tired from the grind and outmatched by the no.1 team in the East.

They weren't overplaying Monty until recently. Dobes was playing every few games until the last 2 weeks.

Whichever veteran goalie we could've acquired wouldn't have been much of an upgrade, if at all, on Dobes. Monty's play schedule likely wouldn't have been much different whether the backup goalie was Dobes or a veteran.
Dobes hasn't had a single start since March 12, over two weeks. During that time, the Habs have leaned exclusively on Montembeault. He and the team have paid the price.

Riding Montembeault might've made sense if he was hot, or if he was used to that workload. Neither is the case. He's letting in goals that shouldn't get past him. He's playing more than he ever has. So why has Marty pushed his starter so hard, even though he's clearly struggling? Because he's not confident in the rookie backup. This is exactly why teams get an experienced veteran. They may not be great, but the coach has enough confidence in them to take some of the load off the main guy.

That said, the solution is simple: Give Dobes some f***ing starts. If last game didn't make it crystal clear that Montembeault needs rest, I don't know what will.

We're getting an insane amount of help from every other team collapsing. They're literally getting gifted a playoff spot if they can just play some slightly above par hockey for the next few weeks.
Meh... we gifted every other team a shot at the playoffs when we collapsed before the 4 Nations. If they couldn't step up and overtake the Habs, it's because we really are the better team.

You could justify riding Montembeault if he was hot, or if he was used to that workload. Neither is the case. He's letting in goals that shouldn't get past him. He's playing more than he ever has. This is the wrong reason to overplay a goalie. There's one reason for this: They're not confident in Dobes. An experienced veteran would've at least given us a degree of consistency the Habs don't feel they're getting with Dobes.

I'm being a bit of a parrot here but I don't think it's that they don't have confidence in Dobes.

Marty's comments when asked about getting Dobes in a game (prior to the Colorado start) and reflections that Monty was looking fatigued and letting in bad goals, just reek of a guy doing something to push back against a narrative.

It's like he thought that giving Dobes a game and giving Monty a rest would be a vote of non confidence in Monty. Which of course it never is.

Desired results tonight:

- MTL win vs. PHI

- DET reg. loss vs. OTT:
DET reg. loss + MTL win = MTL moves 5 pts ahead of DET with 1 game in hand.

While it would be nice to catch up to OTT, I think the priority now is that the teams behind MTL stay behind. PIT takes on BUF, but both teams are no longer a concern.
Need Dead Things to pull off a regulation win tonight along with Habs. I don’t see Det going 9-2 in their last 11GP + there are too many teams they need to jump this late in the season

Sens have 3GP left vs CBJ - that’s the team that concerns me the most. They’re poised to go on a run w Monahan back.

Having both wildcard spots in play only improves the Habs odds of qualifying for playoffs
