Will the Habs make the playoffs?

So the Penguins being reported to aim for a "fire sale" means they are bailing out on the season. One less horse in the race for a playoffs berth in the East.

I mean they have no goaltending, and their D is shit. They have a few ok prospects: Pickering, Pieniemi, Howe, Koivunen, & McGroaty. That's it.

The Rangers have also been winning of late. They're 6-1-3 in their last 10. With their loser point last night, they move 2 points behind Habs. And they have the most RWs among the teams in the mix with 20.

They gained 3 points this weekend but they also gave up 3 points to teams they are competing with.

Its not the worst outcome for them but it does kind of feel like a missed opportunity on their part.

But it's nice to have a "confirmation" that team is looking to get worst, technically.

Them, Bufallo and the Islanders are pretty much done.

Detroit, Flyers, Rangers needs to play above .620 until the rest of the season to make it to 91 pts. I only see the Rangers pulling that off over their remaining games.

Habs needs 0.569, CJB/Ottawa need a bit less. Boston is hanging in there out of spite at this point, just fall already.

But, it's more ~93 pts teams need now, because that's what Ottawa is projected (or even 95 pts based on moneypuck estimate).

A Habs win tonight places us in the WC2 spot. We leapfrog over Columbus and Boston (tied in points but one less game).

In play are the Atlantic 3rd and WC1 spots. Ottawa or Tampa can flip positions, depending on tonight's results.

Craziest possible results: If Habs, Ottawa, and Detroit lose, the standings will look like this:

Ottawa: 52 pts
Boston: 52 pts.
Columbus: 51 pts.
New York: 50 pts.
Montreal: 50 pts.
Philadelphia: 50 pts.

Team 1200 has a poll about of these three teams will make the playoffs.

Rangers, Bruins, Habs

The 3 hosts all picked a different team.

They asked Cheryl Pounder and she responded with brain says Rangers because of their goalie, but gut says Habs.

She ultimately said Habs saying there's no real pressure on them (oppose to the other two) and referenced the recent loss to the leafs and then coming back out and getting the win against the Rangers the next game..

Pretender Pretenders and Pretender Contenders will reveal themselves over the next few weeks.

I think Philly is fake. Columbus and Rangers I feel are legit. I have a tougher read of the Atlantic division teams. As for the Habs, I believe they’re capable of keeping up performances especially with Laine, who has been an outstanding addition. 0.800? Probably not, but 0.600 or thereabouts.

Still saying no.

I can see Dobes being our full time backup, but we're still to wait on Fowler is he turns out to be a legitimate #1 in the long-run, but that's far off. In the meantime we need to grab an actual #1 and not a 2B-3B like Montemblows. Don't see us maintaining the current point pace, especialy if they feel the need to split the games between our current two goalies.

I'd rather have Tampa coming into Montreal with a win. I don't want to face them coming in with a mentality that they have to beat Montreal.

I know it would mean Montreal would have an opportunity to close the gap on Tampa if the lightning lose today, but I don't think catching them is realistic when 82 games are played.... so I'd just focus on not having an angry Tampa team come to town.
It doesn't matter what mentality they come in with. They are in our way we need to moe them out of our way.
This is what divisional games are all about. This is what we hoped for let's enjoy it and take advantage of it.

Enjoy it, for sure. I want 2 points and it would have been easier if Tampa beat Toronto.

I don't believe that for a second Tampa were in that game so it's not like they got blown out and will be angry. The thing that may bite us is goal tending we aren't exactly stellar against Vasilevskiy.
