I think you're overwhelmed by recency bias. There's still a risk we'll be short on ammo to acquire missing pieces, especially when trying to add the final ones tp be a contender, by climbing too quickly like Detroit did.

You're also dismissing Hughes's plan. He's repeated he wants to build long term sustainability. For that to happen, we'll always need picks and prospects.

We absolutely need to draft our own pick.
I disagree on the need to draft our own pick, all options are open in my book, if the right player is available it might be good to pull the trigger.

Top talent isn't a need anymore, we have it on the team and in the pipeline. It's not a need for us to draft high anymore, we've done it and we have our franchise players. Of course we do need to keep drafting and keep a pipeline going.

Florida scores with 1.8 seconds left to tie it 3-3. A knuckler that went over Swayman's shoulder. Reinhart.

Bruins get 1 pt. OT.

I'm kinda hoping we re-sign Evans. No problem getting assets for the others.
Evans should be seeking to cash in as an UFA and the Habs are not in a position to give a ton of cash to a bottom6er when we have the first dibs opportunity to retain Laine and also acquire other big ticket talents. It’s just not cap effective to give Evans a big contract when we have Beck and Kapanen in the pipeline + can pick up a vet C on the trade market for cheap-ish.

I say no to trades. I don't really care if we lose our pending free agents for nothing this summer. Right now, these guys are playing for each other and losing a teammate (Evans, Armia, Savard) would disrupt whatever they have going right now.

Just play it out.
If this core cannot tolerate turnover due to their inexperience, all the better we see it happen this year where the team isn’t really in gear for a playoff run. The experience will have them grow and hopefully be more professional.

We have 3-4 veteran players leaving this summer regardless. Next year’s roster might have up to 7 new faces, that’s a third of a roster. Demidov, Dvorak-replacement, Evans-replacement, Armia-replacement, Savard-replacement, Pezzetta-replacement, Struble-upgrade, and who knows what else.

I don’t want to destroy their morale, of course, but every season is different and picking up a ton of assets for the pending UFAs will allow the Habs to make serious money moves to upgrade 2C and 1RHD in due course.

Damn, Bruins win in OT. Bennett highsticks McAvoy, so Bruins got almost a full 2 minutes PP.

Pastrnak attempts to make a cross seam pass to Lindholm instead Reinhart intercept it. It goes off his blade, hits the inside of the post blocker side & goes in.

Boston can't lose their spot today.

To get in now:

Montreal needs to win
CBJ & Pens just need to lose

If the Bruins continue to play like that they won't win very many games. They got outplayed big time.
