There is no normality this year. There is no comparison to do. North division was maybe the section were they travelling the most. They played 25 games in 53 days I believe. I mean. You can’t compare the result of this year vs a normal year. And, there was no bottom feeder team in the section like detroit/Nj etc were its easier to gets free points. So let just be happy to make playoff

Vancouver is at least as bad as NJ, if not Buffalo.

The north division isn't very good and if you watched the south or east at all it becomes very obvious.

We gonna win the series against the Leafs. How do I know? Red Buttons declared that the Habs won't even win one game.

Button: 'I don't think the Habs can win one game against the Leafs'

Button thinks Captain Webs is Stannis Baratheon with his depleted army at Winterfell. Pornstache is definitely Ramsay Bolton material.

Secret fatigue healing potions may help the Player Council of Four get ready for the Leafs.

Unbeknownst to Button, Winterfell might be more like the Battle of the Bastards. No Stannis here, only an emerging Jon Snow covered in blood.

Drouin is Sansa.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but when do you think the playoffs will start? With Calgary and Vancouver both eliminated, I sort of doubt the NHL will delay the start of the playoffs until their final 3 games are played. I'm pretty sure May 13th or May 14th will be the last meaningful game in terms of playoff implications, so do they start shortly afterwards? I'm going to guess they start somewhere around May 15 - May 17. Thoughts?

What a f***ing indictment of the division that Winnipepg is 1-9-0 in their last 10 and haven't been in danger of missing the play-offs.
I think it's a case of Winnipeg's wild ride from being a red-hot top team to a complete disaster. They could afford to lose so many games now because they won so many earlier. Montreal had the same issue to a lesser extent. Injuries, extra-condensed schedules, Covid – those factors compromised what should have been a strong Jets roster, a decent Habs roster, and a so-so Vancouver roster. With a little rest and recovery, I believe Winnipeg and Montreal can reboot from the crap we've seen the last month.

Maybe Winnipeg.. I have a hard time believing that of Montreal.

Hot starts and gigantic failures are basically the MO of the Bergevin era Habs.

I like the cut of your jib.

And I don't even know what a jib is.
jib
noun (1)
Definition of jib (Entry 2 of 3)
: a triangular sail set on a stay extending usually from the head of the foremast to the bowsprit or the jibboomalso : the small triangular headsail on a sloop

Now we both know.

Scared of the habs? Have you seen this team lately? We were hoping to play Buffalo.

BTW McDavid is scared of Danault :) and Nurse and Nugent Hopkins are secret lovers.

Nice analogy. I'm rooting for you to be right but something tells me naw.

More like me being sarcastic and hoping it's right like you. There is a chance but there are a few things that concern me with the coaching style. We made a coaching change but it's still the same system and I feel it's not right for the tools we have.

1) We suck on faceoffs. This hurts even more cause we also struggle at puck possession which leads to #2..

2) We lack puck possession beasts. Petry is the only one that can carry it and not loose it when he gets contact.

3) We turn the puck over way too much in our own end. I would love to see the amount of goals that we allowed because of this. I know all teams are vulnerable to this but I feel we are near the bottom.

4) Puck battles. I'm not seeing us win too many battles in the trenches. Adding Toffoli and Anderson helps but it's still an issue.

5) We try to circle back too much to move forward with the "flying V". I get that strategy cause all teams try it but we don't have the tools to move the puck like that and we make stupid passes to a player close by who is already covered. I rather see us spread out a bit more and have one of the wingers float around near their D. This way, our D can chip it out and it might work better with our transition game cause the other teams D will have a forward near by they have to worry about. I think we are making it way to easy to counter our attack by having too many of our players close together.

6) Play a north south game. Not east west. Get the puck out of our zone and into theirs. Then we can use our forecheck attack which is decent.

I think they work on several areas and I think we will be better. Question is how much better. If we limit the garbage turnovers, I think we do well.

I don't think they are scared but I do think they know the Habs are a better team that can cause some damage. They won't take us lightly because of it. Most teams know that our transition game is deadly which is why we started the season well. Teams adjusted. Then we started to turn the puck over in our own end way too much. This is problem #1 among several issues that need to be fixed.

IMO Toronto is the only team we can beat, and even then it's a long shot. I expect to be out quickly.

Edmonton is more beatable. Evans and Danault can solve McDavid's mystery. Not so much Matthews and Tavares.

I still don't understand why Douche doesn't deploy the same strategy against Mathews and Marner as we do with McDavid and Drai

Easy, it has to do with how each D operates to get the puck to said superstars. Edmonton does not have a Holl or a Brodie that takes it up the ice, Barrie fails most times. More difficult for Phil to anticipate when and how it'll get to Matthews, whereas McDrai have a ton of set plays that start in their D zone. Godspeed willing.

With the only difference that Julien had a better record than Therrien or are you referring to when Bob took over from Carbo?

Yes I was thinking Therrien. They were leading the division when Therrien was replaced by Julien. They still finished first.

IIRC no NHL team played more than the Habs since their COVID break (I'm sure no team in the North division played as many games). They played more than 1 game every 2 days. I hope the break and the return of some injured players will raise their collective game. They'll have some time to practice for real too, not a lot, but that might help Ducharme implement some strategies and a better collective game. I won't hold my breath of course, but that makes the playoffs a little bit more intriguing.

What's the carry in difference between the superstars for each respective team?

No idea. Been watching the same teams over and over, just trends I've noticed. Toronto is more elusive for sure.
They are but that shouldn't mean we can't key on those two which we don't seem to do. Much rather have Reilly carry the puck in than The other two.

At this point, we just want to get healthy. A healthy, raring to go Price is a game changer. He helps our D a lot because of his ability to move the puck.

Need Gallagher back too.

Weber & Danault will both hopefully be better than they've been as they were playing with injuries.

Just need guys rested a bit & healthy.

I'm guessing set strategies against Marner-Matthews become more demanding in the video room and during line talk than they are for McDrai. Might be enough time now before the PO for Phil & Co to adjust.
