GDT: PLAYOFFS: Canes game in Jersey? What exit?

These charts don’t often match an eye test but tonight’s does.

Burns Slavin ghost jr hall Robinson all had awful games:

So Burns registered the worst single game performance for the team last night and dragged Slavin all the way down with him.

Yet he still keeps getting not just to like minutes but leads the team in TOI.

Brindy will never realize the game has passed him by. He still thinks Burns is in his prime.

We seem to change our strategy in OT a bit. Not sure if it's fatigue but we dump and change instead of dump and chase ALOT.
I thought we looked to be the more tired team. Which is surprising since NJ only had 5 dmen and were supposed to be serious about fitness.

This goes back to the longstanding discussion on if Rods system is too demanding over the long haul.

The Devils have apparently never been swept in the postseason. We won't be the ones to end that streak.

Great job by Freddie. I feel bad for him, but hey, maybe now the team and him and are even for Game 6 last year in the "letting each other down " department.

I'm praying our dreadful OT luck turns around though. Nauseating watching back to back to back to back {infinity) OT losses.
That might be the best game Freddie has played as a Hurricane.

Well it depends. This is a series against a team missing a lot of resources on o and d so yes you should sweep them. Now play next round and beyond more difficult.

Btw: Coach was pretty pissed off tonight knowing that the team gave this one away.

I’d question how long you’ve been watching hockey and specifically playoff hockey if you think a team missing players should be an automatic sweep. I’ve watched teams with depleted rosters take a series to 7 games largely on the back of a hot goalie. Playoffs are very rarely that cut and dry.

Ok you win as it’s clear you are one salty experienced guy.

But, I go back as far as when Leafs won their last cup so there’s that

Im getting very tried of the burns and roslovic show while jankowski and nikishin sit in the press box.
I'm tired of watching burns drag slavin down.

if nikishin draws in, it feels like it has to be for ghost after that pylon performance on the game winner. having said that, there would be worse configurations than sitting burns and putting orlov on his off hand with nikishin so the language barrier isn't an issue on the ice. i'm higher than most on chatfield, and even i don't think of him as a long term first pair guy, but in a pinch he can do the job and i have no issue saying i think he (and his speed) would be better in that spot than burns.

slavin - chatfield
nikishin - orlov
ghost - walker

vs

slavin - burns
orlov - chatfield
nikishin - walker

or do you swap orlov anyway for language barrier reasons and run

slavin - burns
chatfield - walker
nikishin - orlov (with more minutes as soon as they 'prove it')

with this swap for home games only, so jersey's one line doesn't cave burns' pair like they did ghost's

slavin - walker
nikishin - orlov
chatfield - burns (if he has to stay in for the love of god put him on the third pair - and that preferably only at home)

of course, i'm so low on burns that my thought last night was "morrow's freed up now" - and i saw how much he struggled in his last couple games. so i'm not sure if it was a serious thought or me finding a new way to mentally shit on burns.

I still find it unlikely that Rod would scratch any healthy D for Nikishin. Ghost was a pylon on D, but the PP did gets 2 goals last night. I could see us going 11F 7D. Carrier has been completely invisible outside of doing bad thinks like taking penalties. Sit his ass. At the very least replace him or Roslovic with Janks.

For what it's worth, both Carrier and Robinson have been our most physical forwards.

Id ask andersen. It's his crease. And we know PK will f*** it up.

I'll say it again. Burns is costing us, and he's going to cost us a series and it's infuriating. Ghost being a drill cone last night is just maddening.

Idk what's up with nikishin but you need to put him in

my two biggest priorities this summer:

1. Get a legitimate partner for Slavin. I know Morrow has upside, but a contending team shouldn’t be burdening the best defensive defenseman in the world with a project. Go and get Dobson. If that’s not a path they’re willing to go I will bitterly and begrudgingly accept Walker with Slavin and Morrow on the third pair.

2, If you can’t trade him then buy him out, either way Ghost should not be on this roster once the playoffs are over. Bring in a new guy who is the polar opposite of Ghost. I want a big bodied and physical 3LD who can keep driving opponents to the outside lane, as well as box out opponents from in front of and around our goalie’s crease.

Well, I was questioning why Jankowski was a healthy scratch to start this series, and now there's a chorus of fans saying he should be put back in on the 4th line.

I said a couple of weeks ago or so that since we got him after the trade deadline, the last time I remember our 4th line looking that good was the year we won the Stanley cup in 2006. It was so refreshing to have a 4th line that was a genuine scoring threat after we got him, and Jankowski and Robinson had a lot of good plays together. Truly having all 4 lines as a scoring threat was a feeling I literally forgot. Rod messed too much with something that was working; the 4th line with Jankowski.

Now, do we run it back with him and Robinson still being on the 4th line together? Or is it Robinson that gets scratched? Right now, given the amount of success Janky and Robinson had, I think I'd scratch Roslovic. I know people are saying Carrier was bad in game 3, but I'd keep him in the lineup for some toughness on the 4th line. However, going with Robinson AND Roslovic as Jankowski's wingers is kind of interesting if you want to have more scoring fire power.

Regardless of who his wingers will be, Jankowski needs to come back to the 4th line after being a healthy scratch. Get him back in the lineup Rod!

Regarding Nikishin being added on the 3rd pairing, if there was a time to do it, now is a good time after game 3. However, I'm skeptical Rod will be okay adding him to the line up after our 1st loss in a series that we're up 2-1. Rod isn't typically generous to rookie players getting play time, and this is a unique situation with Nikishin having never played an NHL game before while we're in the playoffs. Also, we have Morrow to consider using on the blue line as well if we want to swap players out.
