Post-Game Talk: Playoff spot engaged

In fairness, and you know me I'm an optimist generally, these injuries are hugely concerning so it's understandable that people see the Oilers Cup chances dwindling by the minute. Not to mention that they paid a 2nd+ for a guy who might very well just play 7 minutes for the Oilers. It's been a disappointing season all things considered with a playoff run looming littered with dark clouds on the injury front. Ekholm is the killer, I just can't see them winning even one playoff series without him.
Totally fair. I think some people are raising some very valid concerns for sure. But I also think some people are being over the top critical and hyperbolic. Short offseason, down year from almost every player, injuries and inconsistent tending all season and yet they are comfortably in the playoffs. This is a very veteran team and know how to crank it up in the playoffs. Will they? I sure hope so, but we will see I guess. We all know the playoffs is a different animal.

Anyways, they have a chip and a chair and the 2 best players in the world. LFG!

McDrai window could be open for another decade. We just need to extend McDavid.
No need for doom n gloom.
This club will continue to attract top end talent as long as we have McDavid on the team.
Look at Crosby and Ovechkin. Still elite players that are almost 40. We just need to start keeping our high picks and prospects soon to surround those two with young talent.

Solid game by the boys last night. Must have hit 4-5 posts/crossbars, making the Sharks shit goalie look somewhat respectable.

- Brett Kulak continues his upward trend back to respectability. Another solid, take charge game.

- McD great again. He's back this time, for sure!

- Picks gave up an iffy one, had no chance on the skate deflection, but kept them in it until Mcd worked his magic. Made several solid saves, including the crucial monstrous one at the end. And produced yet another win, not bad for a journeyman backup. To all his doubters and haters, suck it!

- don't know what to make of all the injuries, but it's looking like 2-3 key guys will not be in the lineup for game one.

It's pathetic to be honest. Some of our players are being held out for precautionary reasons. Hell, since we clinched, just keep them all out. It's embarrassing how depressed this board is after finding out we are going to the playoffs lol
Im down on this game, but not the playoffs. A win was nice, to clinch was nice, but Ekholm is more important

I'm still positive about the playoffs. Even if Draisaitl doesn't play game 1 it isn't the end of the world. But, he likely will. I bet Frederic will see playoff time with us to, and find his stride. Kane too.

Also, we could win a cup without Ekholm. The Walman trade helps that cause out, but most of all, Nurse is much better this year than last. I see the whole team as better this season than last season. We have veterans who are likely saving something for the playoffs: older guys like Henrique, Brown, Janmark, and Hyman. Our underperformance is a mirage

And sure, Ekholm could play in the playoffs too. But, this game was a big blow to the odds of him coming back at 100% at any point

Seemed to like he was saying he won’t be up to speed until then. Not that he won’t be able to play.

I thought of that, as he said he won’t be able to help the Oilers until the third round at the earliest. But then I thought that Spec or anyone else has no idea how he will perform in his first game back, so he’s just using fancy words to say to won’t play until the third round. But we’ll find out in a week or so.

This is rich, Lol, coming the guy that earlier stated Pickard wasn't even an NHL goalie, is now admonishing others. :laugh:Just stop already.

People who are capable of thinking analytically and critically can change their opinions based on new information. Pickard has played much better and has given me confidence in him as our starter, so my opinion reflects that.

And wow, I'm still in your head and still not paying rent.

On a totally unrelated note, for no reason in particular, I feel compelled to share this clip...

Free agency is a fools way to build team. You’re paying premium prices for players that are about to start their decline. It’s only good to fill depth roles. Players also won’t come here once our window is closed. For a city like Edmonton we have to depend on great drafting and development.

Well we’re totally f***ed then.

Not sure what Ekholms injury could be. He just fell on the ice twice on his own.
Balance issues more than an injured body part considering he wasn't limping or anything

I'm a bit concerned about Walman though. They're being very coy about his injury.
