Post-Game Talk: Playoff spot engaged

Thanks for clarifying. Wasn't sure if you were including both seasons.
If he continues to click with McDavid in playoffs his 4.5M caphit of this season can be justified.
I’m not sure he will ever be worth that contract holland signed. However we beat that drum all year last season.

He resigned for a great deal and that’s what we should be going off of. We could be paying him 3.5 million to play for another team right now.

This place is a sad sack of self despair
There’s a healthy amount of de facto truth concerning current health, organizational depth, etc, pertaining to the SC playoffs. If that causes you self despair, that’s on you.

But to also suggest it’s all rainbows and unicorns is equally batshit crazy.

Can they overcome the challenges in front of them to raise a banner? Possibly.

That’s why they play the games.

I don’t think that’s how it works ..

Ekholm likely said he was feeling good enough to go and they trusted him. Then he realized he wasn’t

We have plenty of reasons to shit on management. We don’t need to start making shit up

I do not think that it is making shit up when Bowman in his interview was talking about pushing players to play. It's been done forever in pro sports where team doctors treat pain so players can play regardless of the long term consequences of the players health. Coaches want players to play, managers want players to play, and players want to play. Team doctors are often pain managers, and do not get too caught up in their hypocritical oath.

McDrai window could be open for another decade. We just need to extend McDavid.
No need for doom n gloom.
This club will continue to attract top end talent as long as we have McDavid on the team.
Also although we have no youth maybe we can sign some UFA prospects. Oddly the worse we manage our prospects, the more attractive we should be to UFA prospects.

It's pathetic to be honest. Some of our players are being held out for precautionary reasons. Hell, since we clinched, just keep them all out. It's embarrassing how depressed this board is after finding out we are going to the playoffs lol
"Precautionary reasons" Knoblauch proceeds to say Frederic and one of Hyman/Ekholm will not be ready for game 1 of the playoffs.

Lol. I see what you did there.

Depressing as hell in here. DOD levels of sadness.
In fairness, and you know me I'm an optimist generally, these injuries are hugely concerning so it's understandable that people see the Oilers Cup chances dwindling by the minute. Not to mention that they paid a 2nd+ for a guy who might very well just play 7 minutes for the Oilers. It's been a disappointing season all things considered with a playoff run looming littered with dark clouds on the injury front. Ekholm is the killer, I just can't see them winning even one playoff series without him.

Knob said no such thing. That's just what you heard.
It is a possibility is what he said because he hadn't spoken with med staff prior to his interview.

Starting to think if we can't get healthy and get it done this year that Mcdavid won't win a cup ever.
Because why? The core is intact and even if we lose Bouchard due to cap we will remain a contender as long as McDavid re-ups.

This is actually the least likely year for us to win the cup factoring in our goaltending, right side of defense, top 6 wingers and injuries.

Since we're just throwing out unsubstantiated rumours right now, I have heard that at least in the case of McDavid and Draisaitl, that the team is being overly cautious, and that both have been healthy enough to play for a little bit. This is just grapevine stuff, but it sounded like they are planning on resting both as much as possible before the playoffs, so I doubt Draisaitl comes back at all in the regular season, and wouldn't be surprised if McDavid goes back out for the last few games too.

Ekholm was out early first period, I would like to think he spoke to the medical staff between periods.

Seemed to like he was saying he won’t be up to speed until then. Not that he won’t be able to play.
I understand why people are sceptical with Kane, but he has played in the NHL a long time. I don't think it'll take as long for him to get up to speed as people think. I'm more concerned about what his top speed actually is lol.

I think people will be surprised with how good he looks in his first few games back.

I agree Kane plays a simple north south game. He’ll have some timing issues for sure but I don’t see it taking him super long to get his game in order.

Adrenaline has a way of pumping up someone initially, so yah, he probably will look good at first. But after that initial burst, I think reality will kick in.

Stauffer had Bowman on yesterday and both said that Kane’s skating right now is as good as it’s ever been in his career. Obviously he’s not taking contact or being subjected to game like situations, but that is encouraging in itself. He just needs to get his cardio strong and hope his hands follow his feet.
