Playoff race/Scoreboard watching thread

It's crazy how bad all the teams except MTL have been down the stretch, the way CBJ were skidding earlier you'd think there's be several teams ahead of them by now, but instead everyone else has been sucking as well and these couple wins make CBJ the best of the rest.

I'm about ready to say they are done :sarcasm: but with 4 games to go and if CBJ wins them all and MTL loses all, and at least 3 of them in regulation, the CBJ are in. Crazier things have happened.

Montreal might lose to Ottawa, Toronto and Carolina. (They might win them too, only Toronto has something to play for in the standings right now.)

But Montreal also plays Chicago. And they only need two points to get in even if we win all of our remaining four games, Montreal has the tiebreaker (even if RW is tied, they win on ROW).

So chances are slim. It might all be over today if Montreal wins against Ottawa.

That said I hope they keep pushing as long as there's still a chance and I'm happy to see these couple of wins here.

I think the most frustrating part of this season is just looking back at all the what ifs. What if we won just a few of those OTLs, what if Johnson didn't get hurt would he had stayed hot? If Monahan didn't get hurt, surely we'd be in one of the WC spots. And the obvious, if we had Johnny and we get this same level of play from Monahan and guys like Marchenko... There's no doubt we could've been top 3 in the division.

Yeah putting aside the emotional side, Gaudreau's talent used in this faster paced offense friendly system... oof. I wonder if his faster pace could have developed the 2 man game with Fantilli that Fantilli-Johnson haven't been able to make work yet

For me, and I'm sure many of you, it's not going to be missing the playoffs in general, it's HOW we're goingto end up missing the playoffs. They were in control and just hit the skids at the wrong time. It's a tough spot to be in to play so well for so long and look like a legit playoff team. Then... poof. Gone. Had we gone the other way (not good for a long stretch and then turned it on to end the year) many would probably be back on the tank train and questioning why we are winning. I don't ever question winning when it comes to a young team full of future promise. It just hurts to discuss the "what ifs" and know they stumbled simply at the wrong time. I'll just take this season as a huge positive and feel we have the right coach to continue to push the development and bring structure. I believe we also have the correct GM that will make moves designed to push next year and beyond. I hope you all can hang on to the positives in a tough year and see the big picture still looks really good overall. The key will be to not take a step back next year - as has been done in the past.

I really have hope for the future, remember we had to add a bunch of guys to the roster after majority of the FA market had been signed and had to take the best available leftovers and waiver wire pickups through the first few months just to fill out the roster and try to become cap complaint.

I really am hopeful for this team moving forward. Playoffs would be an absolute amazing finish to the season, even if they were to get blown out. But to even be having this conversation right now is a win for this organization after the off-season we had.
