Playoff race/Scoreboard watching thread

of course two teams who have implications on our playoff odds/a higher first round pick odds, both get a point :)

You think they still have a chance?

I'm not going to debate people on HF about chance anymore.

But I will not respond kindly to tanking talk, especially not in this of all seasons. We're trying to honor Johnny Gaudreau * not move up marginally from like 13thOA to 11thOA in a mediocre draft. f*** that bullshit.

*Much more than that, this is a great group of players that has come together and we want them to learn how to succeed and take that next step.

8 games to go with 4 point deficit to Montreal with a game in hand and 2 point deficit to NYR, of course they have a chance.

Also it's not like MTL or NYR are some juggernauts. NYR is a bit worrying since they are an experienced team that's had a really bad season compared to expectations and they also have a goalie who could go hot and steal them games. Montreal is a lot like CBJ in that their season as a whole is a lot better than expected but they've also had stretches of really bad play and could implode any moment - or win all remaining games. It's not long ago it started to look like they were gonna fall completely out of it, then they turned it around to seem a favourite to make it, only to fall out again, just to climb back... sound familiar? :D

And like @majormajor said above, this is important learning experience for the team, there's really no substitute for experiencing these games and going at it until the end.

Did having playoff talk through March (for a projected bottom feeder) not do that already? What do meaningless points (knowing we won’t make it) accomplish now? We know “building momentum into next year” is a load of bologna.

Moving to 11OA means you can still draft 1OA with some luck. 13OA and you only have a chance at 3OA at best.

And that only happens if they go 5-3 vs 2-6??? And miss the playoffs in both cases???

Seems likely that they need to win 7 of their last 8 to get in. They may get lucky if they win only 6, but I'm thinking 7. Tough going with a back to back on the road this weekend but they need to get it done there to stay in it.

We have 5 games against play off teams and 3 against non play off teams.

We win those 3 plus beat Ottawa twice, that’s already decent.

Minnesota lost again. Calgary is 5 points back with 2 games in hand and they have 1 game left against them.

The Flames also have 2 games against the Sharks and 1 against the Ducks.

The Flames actually control their own destiny, not the Wild.

Even if/when we get us eliminated, I want us to win. I get wanting to tank when you’re a bad team (with probably a bad and/or transient locker room) in the bottom-5 and you’re fighting for better #1 overall odds and there can be a big difference between the #3 pick and the #5 pick.

There’s marginal difference between picks in the lower double digits. I’d rather a young team like ours with a first-year head coach continue to build (in infamous words…) a “winning culture”.

It sounds like both teams control their own destiny, because of the head to head matchup.

Interesting games tonight, NYR losing is just what the doctor ordered and yes, being down 4 goals with just a couple minutes to go is enough for me to state they have "no chance" :P

"On paper" Montreal has the way easier game vs PHI, but the Flyers are on a 3 game win streak after their coaching change, which they started vs. none other than Montreal.

Toronto has clinched, but is still playing for winning the division.
