To be fair the CBJ is 5 points behind NJD based on losing the tie breaker. They need to pass them, not tie them. Still possible but with all the 3 point games it will still be difficult. I still think the 3 games with Ottawa are going to decide their playoff fate later this month. Ottawa and Detroit (obviously) are the only two that I truly worry about a run. The Rangers...maybe, but they seem to have a serious miss in that organization. Talent is there, the team is not.

I might be too optimistic, but NJD have been in a free fall even before Hughes’ unfortunate likely LTIR injury. I don’t think it will be that difficult to catch them:

Records over the last 24 Games:

NJD 9-12-3 for 21 points (0.875 PPG)
CBJ 15-7-2 for 32 points (1.333 PPG)

That PPG rate tracks Final season points to:

CBJ 97.3
NJD 89.5

Also, during those 24 games:

NJD vs current playoff teams: 1-6-2
CBJ vs current playoff teams: 7-3-0

Their schedule doesn’t look any more favorable:

NJD 10 of last 20 games vs current playoff teams.

CBJ 10 of last 22 games vs current playoff teams.

Monday Night Hockey...scoreboard watching because three teams right behind us and Detroit for the WC race are playing...

Sens (#3 in WC race) @ Caps: Let's go Caps! Early 6:30 PM start tonight. Normally you'd give the edge to the team leading the conference but the Caps have stalled lately (three game losing streak) and the Sens have gotten healthy, Tim Stutzle is on an eleven game point streak and they have way more at stake. As long as POTUS doesn't make a statement saying our capital city team is better than their capital city team perhaps there's a chance. Don't like the vibes for this game.

Sabres @ Habs (#5 in WC race): Let's go Sabres. I'd be cheering for Sabres even if they weren't playing an opponent we are trying to shake but even moreso because it is the Habs. Would not be surprised to hear someone on the Sabres is being held out for trade reasons at this point. Sabres been on a small heater here winning four in a row. We all watching this game to scout Jason Zucker, JJ Peterka, Cozens, etc?

Isles (#6 in WC race) @ Rangers (#4 in WC race): Let's go Isles. The last game did not go well for us as the Rangers smoked the Isles 5-1 on The Island in late February. Top two face-off teams in the league. Isles lose tonight and Lou should put out the Fire Sale sign...everything must go...including him.
