this is such a hard feeling to sit with.

it’s like a breakup that you knew was on the verge of happening and you kept denying it but deep down you know you gotta move on no matter how bad it hurts.. but you feel like you’re stuck and just can’t. like.. you want to look back and reminisce on all of the good times but it’s just too hard to bear in the moment.

it was a good run.
there’s a lot to be proud of.
I made tons and tons of memories at NWA this year (and Ohio Stadium) that’ll last a lifetime.
I know for a fact Johnny was with us all along and that he watched every single game.. not just watched but was there, he was present even if not seen.

I am so proud to be a ‘die hard’ columbus blue jackets fan and a person who was born in and grew up in this city.

I expected them to be near bottom of the barrel. They played above their paper roster but have some great core pieces going forward assuming we compliment it appropriately.

Team was young core with good guidance pieces (z, Boone, Monny).

Ultimately we should still have some rounding out of Forwards (star piece if we don’t expect one of ours to take off further) and reliable depth pueces that aren’t Kunins and Lebancs. D needs strengthening (plus responsible D play from forwards) and stable goalie. Don’t need a worldbeater with competent team D but need better than Elvis.

We earned our spot; wasn’t near the bottom like expected so the climb from 32nd was earned. Wasn’t good enough for post season but we made to April in the hunt.

Good overall. Carolina gave no shits about it but we’d be stupid to think they’d play for us. They did their work and got in.

Unfortunately, Montreal won, although Carolina played very well, as the Brind'Amour style is ideal for players who prefer vertical hockey and there are many of them now.

Hope our guys win the Stanley Cup in the next season. 👌🏻 I am proud of them!

There should atleast be some kind of gentlemans agreement that you just dont rest guys like this when some other teams playoff spot is at stake. As a Canes fan I am disgusted by this move and feel bad you guys. Montreal wasnt great and with Aho, Jarvis, Slavin etc. Columbus would probably be in the playoffs. This was just unsportsmanlike and not a good look for the whole league.

I don't like to write this but a team has to think about its own interests and not the interests of other teams. I am not happy but understand your decision.

I think I'm actually less disappointed about missing the playoffs than the fact that we missed out on the spectacle of the do-or-die atmosphere we would have had tomorrow night. Dang.

I put this in another thread, but I know Torts wouldn’t have rested guys. It almost came up but then the team we were playing clinched or got eliminated (can’t remember which) in game 81, so Torts then chose to rest Bob and Panarin the last game since it didn’t impact anything since we had already clinched.

At the end of the day, the hurricanes, as they should, are only looking out for themselves. They earned their spot to the playoffs weeks ago. They’re locked in on seeding. They did their job.

We didn’t. That’s what it comes down to. One team will be playing next week and the other gets to collect all the good feelings and attaboys/girls and virtual Twitter hugs. We did this to ourselves

Every team who barely misses can do this, but a few things jump immediately to mind that I’ve been thinking about the last few days.

1. Mateychuk blowing the game in the dying seconds against the rangers. Getting a point there (minimum) could have been huge.

2. Provorov (?) losing his man at the end of a late PP against Detroit, leading to a breakaway goal against with seconds to go. Another point there lost (minimum).

3. Against Montreal in OT where a blatant hook goes uncalled and they win it on the ensuing breakaway. A point there lost.

4. Montreal last second tying the Panthers and then winning in OT. If Florida closes that out, maybe things are different.
Almost as if every point matters, every point counts the same.

We just need to tweak some things, because we have most of the TOP 6, including the centers, sorted out.

I think the most important issue is the goalie brigade. Will Jet Greaves be the unit or will we be looking for someone else?

It will also be interesting to see how the defensemen issue is resolved, personally I don't think the TOP 4 needs to change.

Every team can find such things. Like things in which he was very lucky. There's no point in dwelling on it. Better to think about how to improve our play.

Yes, I’ve been trying not to dwell too much on the lost points along the way. On the other hand, CBJ went 6-1 in shootouts this year. So it feels like they gained on the field in that coin flip situation.

Lots of individual plays come to mind that could have changed the season but if I’m going to finger point it’s at the dynamic duo of Elvis and Tarasov who together were the weak links in what otherwise was a playoff team.

Under no circumstances do I want to see either back in a Jackets sweater.

As well as Jet had played they still need to get someone else and move on from Elvis and Tarasov. Jet has played well, but the sample size is not large enough yet to rely on him.

They stunk, but we hung them out to dry too much too. If nothing else though it's time to just move on and get fresh bodies in there. We'd be 100% better off with Jet and a Journeyman.

I supported Tarasov in the last seasons but now... probably would be better if he is gone. To Merzlikins... I think he will not play here in the next season.
