We all know how much Torts loves to mix up the lines, but if you were the head coach of the NYR, assuming they make the playoffs and that Boyle, Staal, and Dorsett are ready by the first game (a BIG assumption), what would your line combinations be?

Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Clowe - Brassard - Callahan
Pyatt - Richards - Zuccarello
Powe - Boyle - Dorsett

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Del Zotto
Moore - Stralman

Lundqvist
Biron

PowerPlay Units...

Zuccarello - Stepan - Nash
McDonagh Richards

Clowe - Brassard - Callahan
Del Zotto Girardi

Thoughts?

No Kreider? How dare you? His lovers will turn nuts, according to them he will take us to the finals :D

The only reason Kreider isn't included is because if Torts doesn't trust him now, he won't in the playoffs. In addition, Pyatt has played better of late and Boyle/Dorsett are coming back. There just isn't a roster spot for Chris unfortunately

Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Clowe - Brassard - Callahan
Kreider - Richards - Zuccarello
Pyatt- Boyle - Dorsett

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Del Zotto
Moore - Stralman

Lundqvist
Biron

PowerPlay Units...

Clowe - Stepan - Nash
MDZ-Zooks

Hags- Brassard - Callahan
McD-Richards

Nash - Stepan - Zuccarello
Clowe - Brassard - Callahan
Pyatt - Richards - Hagelin
Kreider - Boyle - Dorsett

Dont see what we'd want with Kreider on the third line, he's done nothing good the few minutes he's gotten to play and he's even made a few fumbles that inspired no confidence.

Pyatt on the other hand has not been a complete disaster and was actually decent last match

Just send Kreider back to Hartford and call up someone else to grind the few minutes the 4th line gets

what if the Rangers miss the playoffs on the last game like a few years ago vs Flyers, if Jets win tomorrow and Rangers lose their next 2 and Devils knock them out.... this has jinx thread all over it

Sounds like music in my ears :)

That lineup of yours looks good btw, and probably identical to the actual one.

Hagelin - Stepan - Callahan
Clowe - Brassard - Nash
Pyatt - Richards - Zuccarello
Powe - Boyle - Dorsett

this but I think Asham would fill in just fine. Kreider first guy to get a chance if someone goes down in an offensive role. Still have Miller and others kicking around too

but yea lets get into the playoffs first

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-Zuccarello
Clowe-Brassard-Callahan
Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Del Zotto
Moore-Stralman

1st PP
Callahan-Stepan-Nash
Brassard-Stralman

2nd PP
Hagelin-Richards-Clowe
Zuccarello-Moore/McDonagh/Del Zotto

Kreider-Richards-Zuccarello

Maybe, Kreider actually looked good out there tonight.

But I guess Torts doesn't want a rookie in a playoff lineup if he can avoid it.

Hags-Step-Cally
Nash-Brassard-Clowe
Pyatt-Richards-Zuke
Powe-Boyle-Asham

Girardi-McD (heavy minutes)
Stralman-MDZ
Staal-Moore (even minutes with the second pairing)

PP units:

Nash-Brassard-Zuke
MDZ-Richards

Clowe-Stepan-Callahan
Moore-Staal

PK units:

Boyle-Cally
McD-Girardi

Powe-Stepan
Staal-Stralman (looking at the metrics, Stralman has been pretty decent on the kill, which surprised me)

I decided to keep Boyle on the roster for the PK. He only deserves fourth line minutes. I wouldn't mind swapping in Dorsett for Boyle or Powe but I'm not sure he's necessary or ready. I'm not sure where Staal stands as far as minutes but if he's fully healthy, I pair him with MDZ and have them log major minutes as a second pairing. Moore deserves to be on the roster (even though he'd be a fourth lefthanded defenseman), leaving Eminger and Stralman for that last spot. I prefer Eminger but Stralman has familiarity playing with Del Zotto.

I'm pretty content with the way special teams look with what I put together.

Clowe-Richards-Callahan
Hagelin-Richards-Nash
Kreider/Boyle-Brassard-Zuccarello
Asham-Powe-Dorsett
If injured: Kreider steps in, otherwise Boyle

McDonagh-Girardi
Del Zotto-Staal
Moore-Stralman/Eminger

Meant to put Stepan as the second line center, so he can feast on the 2nd pairings, while Richards has a big body to work with on the first line, giving him a boost of confidence and showing him we still believe he can be our best center. Let him play on the first line, let Stepan and Nash have more space on the 2nd with Hagelin.

All the pairings have balance, and defense on every line, as much as I hate putting Boyle in a top 9 situation, he can forecheck, and seems to step his game up in the playoffs.

If everyone is healthy which they wont be

Hagelin ,Stepan, Callahan
Clowe, Brassard, Nash
Zuccarello, Richards, Pyatt
Powe, Boyle, Dorsett

Kreider will see time and looks like Newbury is the next option sadly

D and G is pretty straight forward. Hamrlik and Gilroy sit then let them go as UFA next yr

any line with rick nash on it is the first line in any other teams eyes unless we start pairing him with taylor pyatt and darrel powe. calling hags - step - nash the 2nd line doesnt make them the second line when one is our best center and the other is our best winger.

I'm changing my lines...

Powe - Boyle - Dorsett

McDonagh - Girardi
