actually my point was there is no model, build a balanced roster that can do something really well, then outplay your opponent

and that I'm looking forward to every trade proposal being countered with "look at X, they didn't win that way", full disclosure, if Nash wins I'm going to enjoy the flood of bandwagon support for the build the defense position

Mine was that there are more than one way for people to talk about how each team was constructed. My attempt at humor failed, clearly.

As long as a good coach comes in and uses the roster to it's best, this is exactly right. Let other teams call it the "Buffalo model" later on.

so given the way NHL roster philosophy goes in the NHL, if Nashville wins it will be "we need to have 4 top pairing D" if Pitt wins "We need 3 scoring lines"

already had collier today citing Pitts defense as the reason why you don't need solid defenders as long as you have schultz its all fine

Roster building fundamentals in the NHL by the teams (not what the press likes to talk about) hasn't really changed. All teams still try to build a strong d-corp, get a #1 center/develop strong center group and get real good goaltending. In the cap era its just much harder to get and then keep all those things due to the cap pressure.

Teams generally gravitate towards what their in house roster strength is as the foundation of their team building efforts. Economics have also played a role over the years as well. In Pittsburgh's case its been their centers because of how they've been able to draft them. The Preds have been a small market team economically and its led them to focus on the historically cheaper model of goaltending/defense as the backbone of their team.

Its become harder to improve all 3 areas in the cap era and have the ideal makeup of each. So teams now make due with what variant they have of centers, defense and goaltending. Leaning on whichever is stronger.

About the only trends you see now is the focus on speed as opposed to size/physical players. But the fundamentals of team building haven't really changed.

Barkley on the Stanley Cup Playoffs - “The NBA Playoffs have not been great, but the Stanley Cup Playoffs have been amazing…being at a Stanley Cup Playoff game is incredible.”

Barkley on the atmosphere in Nashville - “JR (Jeremy Roenick) told me I’ve got to come to a game in Nashville. It’s unbelievable. The crowd is amazing.
I was telling Mike (Milbury), Chicago Stadium, when the Bulls were in their heyday, was incredible. This is amazing.”

Barkley on NHL goalies - “These goalies – their flexibility always amazes me. I see them make a save – I pull a groin sitting in the stands.”

I think Charles might've had a couple of pops enjoying the game lol
I told my wife (we were watching) that I thought he was drunk. I remember when he was a svelt 180-lb beast leaving Auburn to play on the '84 Olympic team. Now, he's probably close to double that weight. I think he's closer to 6'-4" in height, than his listed 6' 6", but that picture with Subban makes me think the 6' 6" is legit. Regardless, he's the shortest player to ever lead the NBA in rebounding for a season.

Ugh I hope subban isn't injured
I'm surprised the refs stopped the play for the injury with the Pens clearly in possession. Obviously, it's within their discretion to do so, but I'm still surprised. They did that (in game 2?) for another Preds injury; Sullivan was livid. OTOH, in that game, I felt the Pens got away with a no-call on a slash on breakaway by one of the Preds (Smith or Wilson, I think).

I think country music(modern) is terrible and Nashville looks like an alternate Sabres colors...its one of few teams I would root against matched up against the Penguins. Not too mention Subban tried hurting Eichel multiple times the last few times we played them.
My wife (not a hockey fan, per se, watches with me occasionally) asked how I could tell the Pens and Preds apart.

That initial push was a friggin clinic on how pace can win you a hockey game.

Any coaches out there, record that 7 minute run and make your team watch it daily.

Crosby doing his dbag routine again. Would love to hear Sabretooth's thoughts. He was mighty sanctimonious lecturing myself and others for defending the Niskanen hit

I guess being concussed all that time taught Crosby that bouncing someone's head off the ice repeatedly is ok
