I should go to bed but instead I'll ask this...why are the call ups called black aces? Why not red aces? Why not jokers? Last year did LA have black kings or black aces? If the Blackhawks have black aces, shouldn't the Red Wings have red aces? Shouldn't Ottawa be the Capitals (hockey being the national sport of Canada) and Washington be the Senators? Shouldn't NY be the Wild and Minnesota be the Rangers?

The story originates from Eddie Shores's Springfield Indians when he wouldn't dress players and have them perform certain jobs around the arena. Don Cherry was one of them IIRC.

Black Aces = dead man's hand in poker, so the Black Aces were players who were relegated to Eddie Shore's dog house ( dead men on the Ice).

Well, actually the dead man's hand is aces and eights. It's the hand Wild Bill Hickok was holding when shot in the back of the head. Or so the story goes. Too bad we had to trade Wild Bill. He would have been a natural.

Yes, the Black Aces refer to the Black Aces in a dead man's hand, not all five cards.

Oh, I forgot about Karlsson

There is something strange about the Jets white road jerseys that show up in the white out. When I was watching the game and the camera showed the Jets fans in the background, they looked like they had targets on their chests. When the cameras were following the play and there were several fans in a row, it was like I was riding on Toy Story Midway Mania or something. The Jets logo also looks like one of the circles in a Liminosity game.

One more time, for emphasis.

Just a quick note - I know how tempting it is with the way the franchise was written off by everyone before the series, but let's not go trolling the main boards. Act like we've been there. Also, the avatars are too nice to waste.

So annoying tying to copy a quote and response from the closed GDT thread.

Jets were in it just about the whole time. Think it was more about that than us. Hard fought series despite the sweep.

Oh no, I agree, but for whatever reason I wasn't nervous until Kesler scored. Maybe it was the 3-0 cushion, maybe it's the comebacks in games 1 through 3, but I truly wasn't nervous for most of the game, and usually I'm a wreck.

This game had everything. Kesler silencing the crowd twice, completing the first sweep since 2006, winning a game officiated by Kozari, and an empty net goal.

Whew what a relief. Winnipeg was a tough draw (they'll be back) and every game was a roller coaster ride. I was nervous this whole series and it wasn't easy, but the boys did it. They did it!

Oh yeah I think I might have misread it a little but I was a wreck through all 4

Series over. I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't get this Jets fans are the greatest fans ever thing. They were great, no doubt, but no greater than Calgary's has been or others. They did normal great fanbase things but seem to be praised to no end for it and other fans do the same thing and no one says a word.
I didn't really think about it before but after one week I've already had enough of reading about how Jets fans are so amazing that the NHL would collapse without them and often comes coupled with the notion that no fanbase south of D.C. or Colorado is any good at all or brings anything to the NHL and should be moved. It really came off to me a bit snobbish at times, maybe I'm missing something?

Playoff Kesler is worth every penny.
So many guys stepping up their intensity level for the playoffs, that was a great team effort all series long. So excited for next round.
