From Too Many Men podcast. About 45 minutes in talk about how playoff broadcasts lose the effect of season long stories/insights by not including local/team broadcasters. Maybe an intermission segment by analysts or sideline reporter.

Playoffs are the time teams are in the spotlight and not having the knowledge of some of the more interesting information/stories about players that came up during the season is providing lesser information to fans.

Lose the local broadcasters. I'm not watching to hear a cheerleader for the home team. I feel the same about this regarding Olympic hockey. Tell me what's happening and why. No more Homer calls please.

The best local, or formerly local, broadcasters who work national games keep their biases to a minimum. I'm a Rangers fan and never felt like there was an issue with Mike Emrick (Devils broadcaster) in his calls.

I don't think we need local people in the booth, but sometimes the national broadcasters really do miss some of the storylines. They need to be better informed. Maybe the sideline reporter presentation or intermission story is the way to go, as mentioned in the OP. It's happened a number of times where I've heard Kenny Albert talking about some important story with the Rangers that Olczyk and Boucher clearly had no idea about. Or hearing Sean McDonough (who is terrible to begin with) and Ray Ferraro completely miss on a Rangers storyline... that happens often. Of course, that's not an issue if the those guys came more prepared.

The day that pundits (local or national) became the determining factor for enjoyment of a hockey game was the day that Lord & Lady Stanley (NOT the OP) simultaneously spun in their graves.
