Playing on Adrenaline

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Has anyone had a game where they had way more energy than normal? My endurance has never been the greatest, but there was one game where I was really excited to play and I assume full of adrenaline and I had way more energy than usual and played the best game I've ever played. I was never able to recreate that though.

Has anyone else had this experience? Does playing on adrenaline make that much a difference?

There was one day about a year ago I played in three different hockey games. One was a fun parents versus kids game (though these kids kicked the parents butts), second a charity game through work, then finally a rec league game.

I would have thought that was way too much hockey for a middle aged guy, but dammit it was so much fun I actually thought I played really well. I felt it the next day though.

I don't know if it's just adrenalin, though I'm sure thats part of it. But mood and emotion plays a huge part of any sport, so absolutely if you're "really excited to play" it's going to be reflected in your performance.

Throughout the year I'll have ups and downs. I've had thyroid issues in the past, and since, I've always had periods where I just don't have the get up and go. I skate fine, but I just don't have that extra gear. It doesn't help I'm in my 50s now.

BUT, then I'll go through periods of usually 2-3 weeks where it feels like my 20 year old self shows up, and that second gear is there again. I think its an alignment of the right rest, the right food, the right time in the work out cycle, as well as the right mindset.

I've added interval training to my running routine, and seeing how that works out. The initial results feel promising, but the recovery time for the interval training feels like it takes about a week. Hopefully, my body starts adapting, or I might have to maybe dial it back to find a balance.

Absolutely does adrenaline play a huge factor. When things like fear, battle etc appear, your body goes into superman mode. When losing is not an option things get crazy

Think of police videos where a 110lb girl takes 4 officers to detain them. Or theres some video of a 5'9 dude lifting a helicopter off his friend in a river.
