"Josh Wesley, Trevor Carrick and Roland McKeown all have a shot, and the same is true to a lesser extent of Jaccob Slavin and Tyler Ganly."

- extremely knowledgeable hockey writer luke decock, exactly two weeks ago

we know for almost certain that luke's research of ivan provorov was limited to clicking on his hockeydb page (based on his inaccurate claim of provorov only playing two seasons in north america, which is coincidentally the same error that someone using only hockeydb would make since hockeydb doesn't have most junior leagues in their database). i am going to guess that luke's low opinion of slavin was also based on a quick perusal of slavin's hockeydb page, which would have shown his ghastly +/- but not told you that his team was 6-23-3 or that he was a named to the nchc all-conference first team.

Luke DeCock also didn't rank Jaccob Slavin in our top 10 prospects on The Hockey News' yearbook this summer. His rank

1) Hanifin
2) Fleury
3) McGinn
4) Aho
5) Pesce
6) Nedeljkovic
7) Carrick
8) McKeown
9) Callum Booth
10) Phil The Thrill Di Guiseppe

I know our farm team isn't amazing, but I was surprised to see THN rank us 22nd. They had Calgary as 8th with Sam Bennett / Emile Poirier / Joni Ortio / Jon Gillies / Oliver Kylington / Michael Ferland / Tyler Wotherspoon / Bill Arnold / Brandon Hickey / Kenney Morrison. I'd take each Canes player over each Calgary player at their slotting from my list below (but surely I know I'm wearing homer glasses and aren't super familiar with the Calgary players). I don't think our prospects are top 10 but surely we should be 10-20. Nor do I see how Calgary is that high IMO.

My top 10 would be

1) Jerome Samson Hanifin
2) Bobby Hughes Flery
4) Brad Fast Pesce
5) Nate Hagemo Slavin
6) Dwight Helminen Aho
7) Brett Carson Nedeljkovic
8) Pavel Brendl Carrick
9) Ondrej Otcenas Tolcinsky
10) Daniel Manzato McKeown
and then Wallmark / McGinn / PDG
Probably underrating Brendl a good bit though.

Also the Carolina Hurricanes in the system link still has Dennis Robertson on the team. Didn't we just trade him?

Having Eddie Lack and Cam Ward "compete" for the starting spot and Ward winning would be akin to, like...

having Ryan Tannehill and Matt Cassel compete for a starting QB job in an NFL preseason only to give the job to Cassel.

It's so non-sensical I can't even begin to put it into words.

Ryan Tannehill sucks. Are you saying Eddie Lack sucks?

Slavin's goal is up on the Canes' site. Lots of poise, tight angle, and he scores so well that either someone in the pressbox flatlines, or the arena captain turns on the Fasten Seatbelt sign. I can't quite tell given the audio.

Great start for Noah.

What's the feeling here, does he make the team out of camp??

Matt Cassel is a pretty good qb that won 11 games on a bad patriots team once
