I watched this guy a lot especially more towards the end of his career but I could never get enough of just how mesmerizing his unique skating style was. He was just so dynamic offensively, I'm not sure there will ever be someone else quite like him.

I got more into hockey with the Kings playoff run in 1993 but didn't get familiar with the whole league until 1995ish. I don't even think I had ESPN2 until 1996 or 1997, so there were limited avenues to watch hockey back then. So unfortunately I missed peak Mario. I got an appetizer when he came back in 2000-01. Mario looked like he was barely trying and was putting up video game numbers.

so going back to a reasonable age for me (10+) the guys I'd watch more:

Lived in the Finger Lakes region when these guys were at their best and didn't get Sportschanel on cable which mean the only time I got to see them was when they played the Sabres on... shit I can't even remember what the RSN was at the time. By the time Fox acquired the TV rights for the league most of those guys were not at the peak of their powers aside from maybe one year of Bure pre-injury.

Yeah, Fox jumped from Ch. 29 to Ch. 49 because CHCH out of Hamilton also had the Fox programming and frankly a better picture quality.

I know when I was at Geneseo, we had a hard time getting HNiC in on our tiny dorm suit TV's so it was hard to get live games on anything else. Granted, we did go to a lot of Amerks games instead...
