Probably not a better junior player than Garland.

Garland PPG - 2.42
Marner PPG - 2.32

Oh yeah and he does that with Cameron Askew and some random other winger, no Christian Dvorak/Tkachuk.

Obviously Marner is a much much better prospect, but that's not what the poster you quoted said.

Except garland plays in a much higher scoring league, with weaker goalies and less emphasis on defence.

Marner is way better. Garland is a soft floater. He's good, but not elite.

this guy named Marner...is better. For sure

At this point in time Garland is probably the better Junior player, definitely is offensively. I don't think you're acknowledging the massive advantage Marner has playing with Dvorak and Tkachuck instead of Askew (undrafted) and Weiderer (undrafted rookie Euro).

Mind boggling bad decision by team USA not to even invite him.

In 1999, sure. Not in today's reality.

The guy scoring 22 more points than the next closest guy, in less games, and on pace for 170 points in a full season isn't an elite junior player?

Either you're confused, or don't know the difference between current skill versus NHL potential. Offensively, Garland is the best currently in the CHL and that's tough to argue against.

Jenys and Hajek for the Czech republic.

Jenys is having a pretty bad year in OHL, but I really expected him to get invited to the camp at least.
Hajek is the best czech prospect for the 2016 draft and he is playing very solid in WHL.

When people talk "player" they usually aren't referring to just one aspect of the game. Not at all unreasonable to say Marner is the better player.

Actually still today the Q is a higher scoring league than the OHL. I crunched numbers for the past 3 seasons and the G/PG is higher in the Q for each season

numbers for the ongoing 2015/16 season

QMJHL: 3.49 GPG per team
OHL:3.31 GPG per team.
that makes a huge differance for elite junior players like marner, dvorak and garland.

1. That isn't even close to a "much" higher scoring league like you said.

2. Pretty sure the OHL was the higher scoring league last year..

1. Still it affects star players quite a bit.
2. Close!! That was your closest chance!!! But still the OHL had less goals per game.

OHL 4766 goals ÷1360 games played = 3.50 goals per team per game.

QMJHL 4306÷1224= 3.52 goals per team per game.
Good try though

Edit: Not to mention that Marner,Strome and Dvorak are better all round players and don't get as much T.O.I. as Garland

1. If both teams played 70 games that would be a whole 12 extra goals over the entire year. You're right, a massive difference.

2. 0.02 goal difference.. You're right Garland has a massive advantage.

3. You want to know what Marner, Strome, Dvokrak also have in common? Elite high scoring linemates. Garland has been doing it with two undrafted players who one wasn't even in the league and the other put up 43 points.

I thought Ethan Bear would get an invite. He's got 36 pts in 33 games i believe as a dman in the WHL

I think you can argue over a handful of guys until the cows come home, but there are no truly major omissions on Team Canada. Also I had a good chuckle at the two names dropped by the OP...

Two names I know a bit about( don't follow juniors) because they are both Wild picks. Tuch out ( ouch), Belepdio not only in, but named Captain?
