Players with bad timing and missed getting a cup with their team

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Let’s hear some example of guys that played for a team for a while and just missed getting a cup. Once they left or were traded away the team won the cup

For these guys it must have felt bittersweet seeing their buddies and team win it just after the left

Blake Wheeler comes to mind with the bruins.

Mike Gartner with the Rangers. Long career and never won a cup and the Rangers trade him the same season they won it all.

John Vanbriesbrouck with the New York Rangers (1981-82 to 1992-93)

Billy Harris with the New York Islanders from 1972-73 until traded mid season in 1980. Butch Goring coming in return is considered to be the missing piece that launched the Islanders dynasty

I know Adam Deadmarsh had already won a cup with the Av's in 1996, but he was a fan favorite and traded away in 2001 at the trade deadline for Rob Blake (couple other players involved as well). Av's went on to win the cup that year.

Someone already posted about future hall of famer Tyson Jost being traded away close to the deadline during the Av's 2022 cup run.

Hossa was traded to Pittsburgh and lost in the Final to Detroit. Then signed a 1 year in Detroit and lost in the Final to Pittsburgh lol.

He got his satisfaction later, but still a funny story.

Ty Conklin was also on the losing side of both the 2008 and 2009 finals.

I always remember him because he shows up on Quanthockey when I look at the whole 10 players who have ever played in the NHL who were born in Arizona. He did, however, grow up in Alaska instead. In the reverse, Auston Matthews is one of the best examples of being an "Arizona product" but doesn't show up on that list because he was born in California and his family moved to Arizona when he was an infant.
