avs fan coming in peace. is there any apetite in here for a trade for Rantanen? either as a rental or longterm player.

curious to what your overall thoughts are on sillinger and johnson if one of them is essentially up for grabs.

Marchenko is another guy i'd love on the avs

ryan pulock – would be such a slam dunk fit in our top four
It's too bad that half the bloody Islanders team has NTCs, Pulock included. I'd love it if they found a way to add him, unlikely though it may be.

Pelech's contract at least turns into an M-NTC during the off-season. Though hasn't he had some injury issues lately?

That can't be a fun team to play for, I imagine some would waive.

Wouldn't have any interest as a rental, makes no sense. Longterm... eh. Great player and if they can throw money at him in FA sure but giving up kids before we are even ready to make a legit push also doesn't make a lot of sense

i'd love rantanen but marchenko would be extremely hard to part with given his cheap contract, high level of production and the fact that he's a beloved player here.

realistically it'd be something more like kent johnson + for an extended rantanen rather than marchenko.

jarry has already passed thru waivers and is with the penguins’ minor league team, WBS currently.
And you also can't claim someone on waivers and then try to negotiate retention with the prior team. I think that falls under the rule of "No Take Backs"

Realisitbcally everyone is so eager to upgrade the goalies but the oens you can get right now are not worth the price.

They were talking on Sirius on Monday thinking John Gibson would be a good fit in Columbus. Only 2 years left on his contract but if we are in win now mode he's going to be the only real option because anyone else who would be available is available for a reason.

If his play keeps up over 82 and can raise it or play at a PPG pace next season, he might quite literally have the most team friendly non ELC contracts in the NHL next season

Rantanen would be fine, but Colorado would want a princess and half the kingdom for him. The other downside is that while we would strengthen one line, we would make the other worse. With that said, no one knows how Rantanen would play without MacKinnon. Of course, I'm talking about a possible trade and not signing him as UFA.

the marchenko and johnson contracts (especially KJ) are already on that list imo. but mikko rantanen is a different breed than those guys.

Agreed, makes no sense for us to do unless the price is something that would be totally unacceptable to Colorado. Rantanen only makes sense for us if we are creating a second top line which means we probably have to retain the existing top line as well as Mo and KJ. In addition, I assume that we would have to pay above market rate to keep Rantanen in this market so I doubt that long term its a smart move to drop $15 Million even if we could get him.

My thoughts are that they should trade Provorov. He's not a long term piece and you can easily pull back a 1st +. That type of return can be added to the Minn 1st for someone that is a true upgrade like Dobson. People calling Dobson soft make me laugh, are we going to pretend Werenski is hard nosed? That guy made ridiculously soft plays in the defensive zone for years. Dobson is 25 and already a 1D, you don't get top defensemen for cheap and you definitely don't get a young 1 D without perceived "flaws". Those types don't ever get traded. Let's stop pretending like he wouldn't make this team's defense a lot better.

Dobson's card for reference:

Werenski in comparison:

We actually don't have many great defensive first dmen. If they want to go out and grab someone like Pulock or Pelech as they'd be cheaper? I'd be okay with it.

Both of these guys are top, hard to play against defenders, maybe Dobson against these two guys look soft? I'd love to hear what "they" have to say watching our bruising D core.

Point being, the defense is too inexperienced with not enough defensive minded players. You want someone who can do both and continue to get better? That's Dobson and it will cost a lot, if not, go for Pelech or Pulock as either one could help out significantly. It keeps Severson on the 3rd pairing and we have one less stupidly streaky defenseman on this team (Provorov).

Noah Dobson

You can ask them. Let them know what qualities you're looking for in a defender.

OK. I have done a little digging.

The Islanders drafted Dobson in 2018. Since then they have only drafted one right D — Tomas Machu in the 7th round of 2021. They have drafted 8 left D since drafting Dobson. Machu is at Providence College of a places. (Any Richard fans have a read on him?)

Anyway, they basically have no serious right D in the pipeline. It might be that Dobson is available (at least according to message board types), but they want a top young right D prospect back (plus more). So a piece they would have wanted from us in a Dobson trade is that guy we just traded to Minnesota.

So Dobson is not in the cards.

This probably also applies to Pulock.

realistically the best piece to move for dobson would've been jiricek but obviously that ship has sailed.

i'm not sold on the "he's soft and bad defensively" stuff – even if he's more of an offensively-inclined guy, he's talented and has loud tools and a coaching staff that favors modern defensemen (i.e. evason) would be able to turn him into a two-way monster like werenski is. he's the real deal.

that said, i think having werenski and mateychuk long-term means that the team is best suited filling out the top four with more defensively-focused guys. fabbro is one, pelech and pulock would be good targets too. elick long-term makes sense but i like him better as a trade chip.

Jiricek was really a special case, I don't think most teams had that much interest in him. Our best offer was presumably what we got from the Wild, and the bulk of teams probably were valuing him much below that.
